Job Summary:
The Washington Post is on a mission to reinvent news through innovative storytelling. They are seeking an Applied Machine Learning Scientist to develop and implement advanced machine learning models that enhance user engagement and drive business impact in journalism.
Responsibilities:
• Implement and refine state-of-the-art machine learning models to intelligently balance access to content with user value, driving long-term engagement and revenue growth, starting from problem formulation and data analysis to model deployment, evaluation, and continuous improvement.
• Have a keen problem-solving ability and a strong foundation in statistical analysis
• Execute robust online experiments to evaluate model performance and measure true causal impact on key business metrics.
• Deploy ML models under the constraints of scalability, correctness, and maintainability.
• Collaborate with agile and cross-functional teams of machine learning scientists, software engineers, data engineers, and Product to develop impactful machine learning solutions
• Analyze large and complex data sets to derive valuable insights and inform features and product development
• Have a proven ability to communicate with the business and know business needs, and align our machine learning products with our business goals.
Qualifications:
Required:
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics, or related field
• 2 year machine learning and data science experience
• 2 year professional experience with Python
• Have a keen problem-solving ability and a strong foundation in statistical analysis
• Deploy ML models under the constraints of scalability, correctness, and maintainability
• Collaborate with agile and cross-functional teams of machine learning scientists, software engineers, data engineers, and Product to develop impactful machine learning solutions
• Analyze large and complex data sets to derive valuable insights and inform features and product development
• Have a proven ability to communicate with the business and know business needs, and align our machine learning products with our business goals
Preferred:
• 2 year experience with AWS
• 2 year experience with supervised and unsupervised learning, deep learning, and reinforcement learning
• Hands-on experience designing, building, and deploying deep learning models at scale
• Masters degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics, or related field
• Background in Economics, Finance, or related fields
