Responsibilities
As a Transportation Civil Engineer, your primary responsibilities will include
- Developing detailed designs for transportation infrastructure using computer-aided design (CAD) software.
- Conducting feasibility studies to estimate materials, time and labor costs.
- Preparing and presenting public reports on topics such as bid proposals, deeds, environmental impact statements, and property and right-of-way descriptions.
- Overseeing and analyzing the results of soil testing to determine the adequacy and strength of foundations.
- Analyzing the results of tests on building materials, such as concrete, wood, asphalt, or steel, for use in particular projects.
- Planning and designing transportation or hydraulic systems and structures, following construction and government standards, using design software and drawing tools.
- Directing or participating in surveying to lay out installations and establish reference points, grades, and elevations to guide construction.
- Managing and directing staff members and the construction, operations, or maintenance activities at project site.
- Inspecting project sites to monitor progress and ensure conformance to design specifications and safety or sanitation standards.
- Providing technical advice regarding design, construction, or program modifications and structural repairs to industrial and managerial personnel.
To be considered for this position, you must possess the following qualifications
- A Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a related field. A Master's degree or Professional Engineer (PE) certification would be a significant advantage.
- A minimum of 5 years of experience in civil engineering with a focus on transportation.
- Proficiency in using WisDOT or equivalent software for designing and planning transportation infrastructure.
- Excellent knowledge of design and visualizations software such as AutoCAD, Civil 3D or similar.
- Proficiency in site layout, grading, utility design, regulatory approvals etc.
- Project management and supervision skills.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Excellent knowledge of relevant rules, regulations, and best practices in both government and industry.
- A valid license to practice engineering.
