Field Controls Specialist – BAS / Automation – Traveling

Position Overview: We are seeking a Field Controls Specialist to support building automation and controls projects across the U.S. This is a hands-on field position focused on system startup, testing, troubleshooting, and commissioning of BAS/DDC and PLC-based systems.

This position requires extensive travel (up to 95%). Travel expenses, lodging, and per diem are provided.

Responsibilities

• Perform startup, testing, and commissioning of building automation and control systems.
• Complete point-to-point checkout of controllers, sensors, equipment, and field devices.
• Troubleshoot control wiring, communication, networking, and system issues.
• Work with HVAC equipment including AHUs, VAVs, FCUs, CRAHs, and chilled/hot water systems.
• Read control drawings, wiring diagrams, sequences of operation, and equipment documentation.
• Support functional testing and commissioning on large-scale and mission-critical projects.
• Document test results, deficiencies, and field issues.
• Coordinate with project teams, contractors, electricians, and other trades.
  

Qualifications

• Experience or technical training in BAS, HVAC controls, electrical systems, PLC/automation, or a related field.
• Understanding of low-voltage wiring, controllers, relays, sensors, and basic electrical troubleshooting.
• Exposure to BAS/DDC or PLC platforms is preferred.
• Familiarity with BACnet, Modbus, Ethernet/IP, or similar communication protocols is a plus.
• Ability to read wiring diagrams and controls documentation.
• Strong troubleshooting and communication skills.
• Valid driver's license.
• Willingness and ability to travel extensively.
