About the Role
We are seeking a highly experienced Design Engineering Manager to lead engineering efforts within a specialized manufacturing environment focused on pressure vessels and regulated transportation equipment. This role will oversee design, analysis, and compliance while guiding a team of engineers to deliver high-quality, code-compliant solutions.
The ideal candidate brings deep technical expertise in pressure vessel design, strong knowledge of regulatory requirements, and proven leadership experience. This is a hands-on leadership role with both strategic and technical responsibilities.
Responsibilities
Lead and manage the design engineering function, ensuring alignment with production, quality, and regulatory standards
Oversee design and development of pressure vessels and related equipment in accordance with applicable codes and regulations
Ensure compliance with ASME and DOT/49 CFR requirements throughout design, testing, and fabrication processes
Guide engineering analysis efforts, including FEA for pressure vessels and welded structures
Collaborate cross-functionally with manufacturing, quality, and operations teams to support production and continuous improvement
Review and approve engineering drawings, calculations, and specifications
Mentor and develop engineering team members while driving technical excellence
Support continuous improvement initiatives related to design efficiency, cost, and manufacturability
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering (ABET accredited)
Minimum 5 years of experience with ASME Section VIII, Division 1 “design by rule”
Minimum 7 years of experience with 49 CFR design, testing, and fabrication requirements for cargo tank motor vehicles
At least 3 years of experience performing FEA on pressure vessels and welded sheet metal structures
Strong experience with carbon steel, stainless steel, and aluminum welded construction
Proven leadership or management experience within an engineering environment
Stable work history with demonstrated technical and professional growth
