Our client is seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Cost Accounting Manager to join its growing team. The Cost Accounting Manager will be responsible for managing and overseeing all aspects of cost accounting within the organization. This role requires strong analytical abilities, a deep understanding of cost accounting principles, and experience within the food manufacturing industry. The ideal candidate will be a strategic thinker with excellent problem-solving skills, capable of providing valuable insights and recommendations to optimize costs and enhance financial performance.

Job Details

Responsibilities:

1. Cost Analysis and Reporting:

  • Analyze manufacturing costs, including direct materials, labor, and overhead expenses, and provide accurate and timely reports on cost variances, trends, and performance metrics.
  • Develop and maintain cost accounting policies, procedures, and controls to ensure accurate and consistent costing practices across the organization.
  • Identify areas of cost reduction and improvement opportunities through detailed cost analysis, process evaluation, and benchmarking.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including operations, procurement, and finance, to gather cost-related data, validate assumptions, and ensure accurate cost allocation.

2. Inventory Management:

  • Oversee inventory accounting, including valuation, reconciliation, and cycle counting processes.
  • Coordinate and monitor physical inventory counts and perform analysis to identify discrepancies and potential areas of improvement.
  • Develop and implement inventory control measures to optimize stock levels, minimize obsolescence, and improve accuracy in inventory reporting.
  • Collaborate with operations teams to ensure proper inventory valuation and adherence to standard costing methodologies.

3. Product Costing and Pricing:

  • Lead the product costing process for new and existing products, including the analysis of bill of materials (BOM), labor costs, and overhead allocation.
  • Provide guidance and support in determining accurate product costs and pricing strategies to maximize profitability while remaining competitive in the market.
  • Evaluate the financial impact of proposed product changes, including raw material substitutions, process improvements, and packaging modifications.

4. Financial Analysis and Decision Support:

  • Conduct financial analysis and cost simulations to support business decisions, such as make-or-buy evaluations, capital investment decisions, and pricing scenarios.
  • Collaborate with the finance team to prepare cost-related budgets, forecasts, and financial reports.
  • Provide insights and recommendations to management based on cost analysis, identifying opportunities for cost savings, efficiency improvements, and revenue enhancement.

5. Team Management:

  • Supervise and develop a team of cost accountants, providing guidance, training, and performance evaluations.
  • Foster a collaborative and supportive work environment, promoting knowledge sharing and continuous improvement within the team.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; a CPA or CMA designation is highly preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in cost accounting, preferably within the food manufacturing industry.
  • Strong knowledge of cost accounting principles, methodologies, and best practices.
  • Proficiency in using cost accounting software and ERP systems.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel for data analysis and modeling.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex data and provide meaningful insights.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy, with the ability to work with large volumes of data.
  • Solid understanding of inventory management principles and techniques.
  • Knowledge of food manufacturing processes, supply chain, and regulatory requirements is highly desirable.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
  • Strong leadership abilities with the capacity to manage and develop a team.
