Associate Project Manager – Mergers and Acquisitions (M&A)
Location: New York, NY 10036
Duration: 6-month contract, possibility of extension
This is a hybrid role, with three (3) days per week required in our midtown Manhattan headquarters.
About the Role
Our client is seeking a detail-oriented and strategic Associate Project Manager to support our Global Business Operations (GBO) and M&A integration initiatives. This role will serve as a liaison between the Legal team and Business stakeholders throughout the M&A lifecycle, including post-close integration initiatives. In this role, the Project Manager will work closely with the Legal Department to facilitate delivery of legal operations that support Global Business Operations and M&A Projects, as well as high-priority legal compliance initiatives across the company.
The Project Manager will be responsible for M&A integration processes across all legal functions, as well as other initiatives and cross-functional and legal operations projects, ensuring acquired businesses are brought into compliance with the company's legal frameworks and operating standards. As the central point of coordination for legal team project management, you will help organize and track various project components while driving legal process improvements and efficiencies. As a change agent, you will support a new center of excellence program that focuses on continuous improvement and transformation initiatives.
Project Management & Coordination
- Coordinate and help drive strategic projects across the company on behalf of Global Business Operations.
- Develop and maintain project plans and timelines, identify resource requirements and deliverables.
- Report on the delivery and execution of results, as well as resolution of key risks & issues.
- Demonstrate agility in managing multiple projects across a diverse portfolio, adapting swiftly and efficiently to new mandates critical to project success.
- Monitor and track project progress against established goals,
- Communicate project status, including roadblocks, risks, milestones, and successes, with all stakeholders and senior managers.
- Support the overall function of proactive response and ad-hoc request execution, accurately assessing the time and resources required for completion.
Administrative & Process Management
- Work closely with the Legal Department to streamline processes and identify opportunities for efficiency improvement, particularly within M&A integration workflows
- Prepare and organize documents, assist with contract review and negotiation, and draft correspondence
- Partner with subject matter experts across the Legal and Compliance teams, and the wider organization to create and implement process improvements and transformations for both new and existing processes, including documenting processes, diagnosing inefficiencies, and driving the successful completion of such projects
- Create standardized M&A integration process templates and develop workflows
Stakeholder Communication
- Serve as liaison between Legal, GBO, and other business units (Finance, Tax, Legal, HR, etc.)
- Manage logistics such as scheduling meetings, updating timelines, communicating deliverables, distributing materials, follow-up of actions, and preparing presentations
- Use collaborative tools to improve transparency and project visibility across legal workstreams
Qualifications & Core Competencies:
- Bachelor's degree, Paralegal certificate, or relevant legal experience
- 3 years of project management experience working within a legal department or law firm, with a preference for M&A or corporate transaction and/or legal operations experience
- Strong understanding of key corporate legal workstreams (contract management, negotiation, compliance, privacy, Intellectual property, Corporate governance, etc.) in a global organization
- Discretion and confidentiality when handling sensitive legal matters and M&A transactions
- Collaborative approach with strong interpersonal skills
- Process improvement and results-driven mindset with focus on operational efficiency
- Customer service orientation toward internal business stakeholders
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously across various legal workstreams
- A results-driven mindset and proven record of project completion
- Ability to work well both independently and collaboratively, motivate team members, foster strong relationships, drive change, and facilitate problem-solving discussions
- Experience using Google and/or Microsoft Office Suite
- Strong project management skills with experience using project management software (Asana, Jira, or another project management system is preferred, but not required)
