This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, which manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Senior Software Quality Engineer based in Canada.

The Senior Software Quality Engineer will own end-to-end quality strategy for a fast-growing technology platform supporting cloud infrastructure and distributed systems. In this senior-level role, you will design and maintain scalable automated testing frameworks across backend services and user interfaces, helping engineering teams deliver reliable software with confidence. You will influence product development from the earliest design stages, champion testability, and integrate robust quality checks into continuous integration and delivery pipelines. This is an opportunity for a proactive quality engineering professional who thrives in a dynamic startup environment and enjoys solving complex technical challenges.

Accountabilities
  • Lead the design, development, and maintenance of scalable automated testing frameworks for backend services and user interfaces.

  • Define and drive comprehensive test strategies across services and features, aligning test coverage with product objectives and reliability requirements.

  • Collaborate with engineering and product teams early in the development lifecycle to improve testability and establish shared quality standards.

  • Participate in architectural and design discussions, identifying potential reliability risks and recommending improvements before implementation begins.

  • Integrate automated test suites into continuous integration and continuous delivery (CI/CD) pipelines using tools such as GitHub Actions, Jenkins, or equivalent platforms.

  • Conduct exploratory testing to identify usability issues, edge cases, regressions, and other defects that automated tests may not detect.

  • Use AI-assisted tools to review pull requests and design documents, develop test plans, and automate test cases while independently validating generated outputs.

  • Manage multiple projects and competing priorities simultaneously while maintaining rigorous testing standards in a fast-paced environment.

  • Investigate complex backend and infrastructure issues through systematic debugging, root-cause analysis, and collaboration with engineering teams.

  • Advocate for quality throughout the software development lifecycle, influencing technical decisions and promoting continuous improvement.

Requirements:

  • At least seven years of experience in quality assurance or software testing, including two or more years operating at a senior or staff level.

  • Strong hands-on programming skills in at least one of the following languages: Go, Python, or JavaScript, with practical experience building test automation frameworks and developer tooling.

  • Demonstrated experience designing and maintaining automated testing frameworks for complex software applications.

  • Deep understanding of CI/CD systems and hands-on experience integrating automated test suites into pipelines using GitHub Actions, Jenkins, or similar tools.

  • Regular experience using AI tools to support software quality activities, including code review, test planning, and test automation, combined with strong independent judgment and verification skills.

  • Working knowledge of Kubernetes environments and distributed systems, or the ability and motivation to develop expertise quickly.

  • Excellent analytical, debugging, and problem-solving skills, particularly when investigating backend and infrastructure-related issues.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to influence engineering and product stakeholders and clearly communicate quality risks.

  • A proactive ownership mindset, with the ability to identify problems, drive solutions independently, and deliver measurable results.

  • Proven ability to adapt to ambiguity, manage shifting priorities, and work effectively in a fast-moving startup environment.

  • Preferred: Experience testing tenant clusters or tenant-isolation environments.

  • Preferred: Previous experience leading quality assurance initiatives at a startup during a period of rapid product growth.

Benefits:

  • Competitive compensation: Salary and equity opportunities.

  • Published salary ranges: €65,000–€110,000 for eligible EMEA locations and $130,000–$170,000 for eligible U.S. locations. A specific salary range for Canada was not provided.

  • Health coverage: Medical, dental, vision, and life insurance, including coverage options for eligible dependents. Benefits vary by country.

  • Flexible working hours: A results-oriented approach that accommodates personal appointments and other everyday commitments.

  • Remote-first work environment: Flexibility regarding where you work, with the possibility of adjusting your work arrangement as circumstances change.

  • International collaboration: The opportunity to work with a globally distributed team in a technology-focused environment.

  • Equity participation: Eligible compensation packages may include equity.
