Director of Data Management and Business Intelligence

• Define enterprise data strategy: Partner with the CIO and senior leaders to establish a multi-year data management and BI strategy aligned with business priorities, technology roadmaps, investment plans, and operational requirements.

• Build the data operating model: Establish clear ownership, stewardship, decision rights, architecture standards, delivery practices, and support responsibilities across corporate and regional teams.

• Lead data governance: Develop policies and standards covering data ownership, classification, quality, lineage, retention, residency, access, archival, and acceptable use.

• Improve data quality: Establish authoritative data sources, common business definitions, quality controls, issue-management processes, and scorecards across critical operational and corporate data domains.

• Protect sensitive information: Work with cybersecurity, legal, privacy, export compliance, quality, and security teams to ensure data is appropriately classified, protected, accessed, and shared.

• Shape enterprise data architecture: Define architecture for ingestion, integration, master and reference data, lakehouse or warehouse platforms, semantic models, metadata, reporting, monitoring, and reusable data products.

• Modernize data integration: Establish secure integration patterns for ERP, MRO, finance, supply chain, engineering, and other enterprise systems using APIs, event-based interfaces, ETL/ELT pipelines, and controlled data exchange.

• Strengthen aviation and MRO data: Lead data remediation and governance for maintenance and ERP environments, improving the integrity of aircraft configuration, component history, maintenance plans, technical records, work orders, defects, and inventory information.

• Develop performance intelligence: Lead executive, operational, and functional dashboards and establish consistent performance measures covering fleet readiness, maintenance, supply chain, safety, customers, workforce, programs, and financial performance.

• Enable self-service analytics: Build governed data products and semantic models that allow business users to access reliable insights without creating uncontrolled copies of sensitive information.

• Advance analytics and AI: Identify and govern use cases including predictive maintenance, component reliability, inventory optimization, demand forecasting, anomaly detection, and program risk monitoring, with appropriate ownership, data quality, human oversight, and security controls.

• Lead and develop teams: Build a multidisciplinary organization across data governance, architecture, engineering, BI, and analytics while developing talent, succession plans, and critical capabilities.

• Manage vendors and investments: Oversee external partners, technology platforms, budgets, licensing, service levels, risks, and total cost of ownership.

• Communicate with leadership: Present data risks, investment priorities, architectural decisions, progress, tradeoffs, and measurable business value clearly to executives and non-technical stakeholders.

Requirements

• Education: Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information systems, data engineering, analytics, business, engineering, or a related discipline; a graduate degree or relevant professional certification is an asset.

• Leadership experience: At least 10 years of progressive experience across data management, analytics, BI, enterprise applications, or data architecture, including at least five years leading teams or major cross-functional programs.

• Industry experience: Experience in aerospace, defense, aviation, MRO, or another highly regulated and asset-intensive industry is strongly preferred.

• ERP/MRO expertise: Demonstrated experience improving data quality and reporting within complex ERP or MRO environments; experience with Ramco is a significant asset, while comparable aviation or enterprise platforms are also relevant.

• International experience: Experience operating across multiple countries, legal entities, or security domains, particularly Canada and the United States, is preferred.

• Data expertise: Strong knowledge of enterprise data architecture, dimensional and semantic modeling, master data management, metadata, data quality, lineage, SQL, APIs, and ETL/ELT integration.

• Cloud and BI technologies: Hands-on understanding of modern cloud data platforms and BI solutions; experience with Microsoft Fabric, Azure, Power BI, and related Microsoft data services is preferred.

• Aviation data knowledge: Familiarity with maintenance and supply-chain data, including serialized components, aircraft configuration, maintenance planning, technical records, reliability, and inventory transactions.

• Regulatory knowledge: Familiarity with aviation regulatory and quality environments such as Transport Canada, FAA, EASA, safety management systems, and AS9100 is an asset.

• Security and compliance: Working knowledge of information classification, access control, auditability, privacy, data residency, the Canadian Controlled Goods Program, ITAR/EAR, CUI safeguards, CMMC, and NIST SP 800-171 as applicable.

• Security eligibility: Ability to obtain and maintain the security clearances, controlled-goods eligibility, and customer or program authorizations required for the position.

• Business leadership: Strong judgment connecting data investments to safety, operational readiness, contract delivery, customer commitments, and financial performance.

• Communication: Ability to explain data limitations, security requirements, architectural decisions, and complex technical concepts to executives, operational leaders, technical specialists, and front-line users.

• Program management: Proven ability to manage priorities, budgets, vendors, dependencies, risks, and organizational change in complex environments.

• Collaboration: Strong influencing and relationship-building skills, with the ability to work effectively across multidisciplinary teams without relying solely on formal authority.

• Languages: Professional fluency in English is required; French and additional languages are considered assets.
