Job Summary
We are seeking a detail-oriented Civil Technician to oversee and inspect construction projects in Southeast Wisconsin. The Construction Inspector ensures work is performed in compliance with project plans, specifications, Wisconsin DOT standards (where applicable), safety regulations, and contract requirements. This role plays a critical part in maintaining quality, safety, and accountability on construction sites. The position will offer ample opportunities for advancement.
Key Responsibilities
- Inspect construction activities to ensure compliance with plans, specifications, and applicable Wisconsin DOT, municipal, and federal standards
- Monitor contractor operations including grading, concrete, asphalt, utilities, structures, and traffic control
- Document daily construction activities, quantities, materials, and test results
- Verify materials and workmanship meet approved standards and project requirements
- Identify deficiencies and coordinate corrective actions with contractors and project managers
- Review and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and change orders
- Ensure compliance with safety regulations and erosion control requirements
- Communicate effectively with contractors, engineers, project managers, and public agencies
- Assist with project closeout documentation and final inspections
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent (Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related field preferred)
- 4 to 10 years of construction experience on roads and/or bridges in Lieu of a degree.
- Knowledge of construction methods, materials, and inspection procedures
- Familiarity with Wisconsin DOT specifications and standards preferred
- Ability to read and interpret construction plans and specifications
- Proficiency in basic computer applications (Microsoft Word, Excel, inspection software)
- Valid Wisconsin driver’s license and ability to travel to project sites
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions
