About the Role
A well-established law firm based in Charlotte, North Carolina is seeking a motivated and skilled Associate Attorney to join its growing practice.
The ideal candidate will have a background in criminal defense and/or litigation, with an interest in expanding into immigration law. Candidates with strong courtroom experience but no direct immigration background are encouraged to apply — structured training and mentorship will be provided.
What You'll Do
- Represent clients in criminal matters, including misdemeanor and felony proceedings
- Conduct direct and cross-examinations at trial
- Appear in District and Superior Court hearings
- Handle immigration matters including removal defense, visas, asylum, and adjustment of status (training provided)
- Draft motions, briefs, pleadings, and other legal documents with precision and clarity
- Manage client relationships with professionalism, empathy, and responsiveness
Required Qualifications
- J.D. from an ABA-accredited law school
- Active license to practice law in the State of North Carolina (or eligibility for admission)
- Demonstrated courtroom experience, including trial work, direct examination, and cross-examination
- Strong legal research and writing skills
- Experience in criminal law (defense or prosecution)
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior immigration law experience (removal defense, consular processing, DACA, asylum)
- Bilingual or multilingual abilities (Spanish is a plus)
- Familiarity with North Carolina state courts and immigration court procedures
