What are the responsibilities and job description for the Pet Resort Valet - Part Time position at JM Pet Resort?

The Pet Resort Valet provide an essential service to pet parents who, at drop off and at pick up, must be received promptly, professionally and with a smile. Pets must be handled with care, custody and control as they are led throughout the facility. Resort Valet’s are responsible for making connections with both Pets and Pet Parents to ensure a positive experience.

Essential Job Functions

  • Learn, remember and identify dogs by name for all active clients (200 dogs)
  • Learn and apply rigorous safety protocols designed to protect both employees and pets
  • Follow specific handling guidelines to safely navigate dogs throughout the facility
  • Interface with clients in a friendly, professional manner when retrieving and releasing pets and in all interactions with the public
  • Assist clients to bring pets, pet belongings or store purchases to vehicle
  • Use Resort Valet’s Checklist daily; follow all guidelines and protocols accurately
  • Follow specific guidelines for all Boarder Releases
  • Follow safety protocols for locking of all enclosures including crates, runs and gates
  • Follow safety protocols for ensuring pets are placed into clean enclosures
  • Ensure dogs are never permitted to greet each other on leash or in hallways
  • Observe condition of enclosures when releasing pets; report health concerns or unusual behaviors to Lead
  • Learn and follow color-coded caution system describing employee restrictions and permissions for dog handling
  • Learn and apply use of specific language designed to communicate/reinforce behavior expectations to dogs
  • Learn and accurately interpret dog body language to understand dog actions, anticipate possible reactions and make sound judgements “in the moment” to maximize safe outcomes
  • Read and comply with written instructions communicated such as emails, lists, color-coded signs
  • Listen and respond to verbal instructions communicated in person, over loud speaker or walky talky
  • Follow directions from Lead and communicate appropriately and cooperatively in a team setting
  • Prioritize tasks and juggle multiple priorities
  • Complete all tasks within designated timelines
  • Must be able admit/release cats and conduct job functions with exposure to cat dander
  • Follow dress code guidelines including hair tied back/up as an important safety protocol; present in a neat, clean and hygienic manner at all times
  • Maintain excellent attendance record with on-time arrival
  • Adhere to changing work schedule which requires rotating shifts, weekend shifts, holidays and overtime in accordance with business needs
  • Take on any additional tasks or projects within the facility when requested

Computer Skills

  • Must be able to learn and efficiently use One Note, When I Work, Go Daddy Email
  • Must be able to learn new technology in accordance with business needs

Qualifications

  • 1 years of Animal Care experience required
  • Professional pet industry experience strongly preferred
  • Passionate about animal welfare; treats all animals with compassion and kindness
  • Comfortable interacting with all breeds large and small
  • Experience entering, retrieving, maintaining customer databases; learns new software applications with ease
  • Follow rotating work schedule (e.g. nights, weekends and holidays)
  • Reliable and dependable; maintain excellent attendance and punctuality
  • Strong work ethic; sets high standards for self and others

Education

  • High School Diploma or equivalent preferred but not required
