What your day-to-day will look like:
- Monitor, adjust, and maintain HVAC systems including centrifugal chillers, cooling towers, VAV systems, heat exchangers, air handling equipment with DP monitoring, and air balancing operations across commercial and industrial facilities.
- Manage refrigeration systems including specialty multi-circuit systems, DX systems, process chillers, and comfort chillers while ensuring compliance with NJ and EPA refrigerant requirements, maintaining accurate usage and inventory records.
- Troubleshoot, repair, and perform preventive maintenance on boilers, hot water heaters, pumps, valves, piping, filters, and variable frequency drives (VFDs) on HVAC units and pumps, analyzing system operations to determine root causes of malfunctions and implementing corrective actions.
- Install, repair, and maintain electrical controls, motor controls, switching systems, and associated mechanical equipment including wiring single and three-phase motors, running conduit, and rebuilding pumps, motors, and air compressors.
- Perform routine facility repairs including plumbing, piping, tubing installation, sheetrock patching, caulking, painting, and lock repair while working at heights using man lifts, scissor lifts, and scaffolds in compliance with elevated work standards.
- Document work performance, complete Job Safety Analysis forms, recognize and comply with all job-related work permits, and maintain proper use of personal protective equipment including respirators, safety harnesses, and chemical protective clothing.
- Estimate material costs, order supplies, and ensure compliance with state, county, and city ordinances, codes, and laws regarding safe storage, usage, and disposal of hazardous materials.
- High school diploma or state equivalent with 5 years of hands-on experience working with Building Automation Systems in commercial, industrial, or laboratory environments.
- Universal Refrigeration Certification and demonstrated expertise managing refrigerants in compliance with EPA requirements.
- Trade license, apprenticeship completion, or equivalent vocational certification in HVAC or related mechanical trade.
- Proven ability to independently troubleshoot and repair complex mechanical and electrical systems with minimal supervision, including analyzing system operations and implementing corrective actions.
- Valid driver's license with ability to operate man lifts, scissor lifts, and forklifts; respirator fit-tested and physically capable of lifting 50 lbs., working at heights, and performing overhead work.
- Experience with Siemens or Honeywell Building Automation Systems (BAS) and comfort navigating computer-based HVAC control platforms.
- Strong customer service orientation with demonstrated ability to interact professionally with clients in commercial and industrial settings.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Outlook for documentation, reporting, and communication purposes.
- Excellent interpersonal and conflict resolution skills with ability to work effectively as part of a team.
- Fluent verbal and written English communication skills for preparing reports and coordinating with clients and team members.
- Experience working in confined spaces, extreme weather conditions, and varied environmental conditions typical of industrial facilities.
- Willingness to work flexible schedules including 24-hour on-call availability for emergency responses.
