What this job involves:
This UAW Plumber/Maintenance Mechanic position is a hands-on technical role for our Pontiac, MI, location with a very high expectation of "wrench time." You will be a critical part of our facilities team, responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing essential equipment across multiple buildings. We are seeking a multi-skilled expert with a strong focus on plumbing who can independently diagnose and resolve issues with HVAC, water/steam processes, and other building infrastructure. This role is essential for ensuring our client's facilities operate safely and efficiently, requiring a high level of technical expertise and the readiness to respond to on-call emergencies.
This position operates under the International Union of Operating Engineers (IUOE Local 99).
What your day-to-day will look like:
Work Shift: Monday to Friday, 6:00 AM – 2:00 PM. This position is subject to on-call duties 24 hours per day.
Salary/ Comp: $41.57 per hour

What your day-to-day will look like:
- Perform all routine maintenance, repairs, and installations of plumbing, HVAC, and building mechanical systems.
- Diagnose and troubleshoot critical equipment, including supply air units, exhaust fans, pressure boiler systems, pumps, and valves.
- Monitor equipment operations by reviewing logs and inspecting systems to proactively identify and correct potential malfunctions.
- Address a wide range of work orders, from opening clogged drains and repairing leaks to troubleshooting complex system failures, always ensuring compliance with local codes.
- Communicate directly with work order requestors to understand their needs and provide excellent customer service.
- Maintain a clean and safe work environment, complying with all JLL and client policies for the usage and disposal of materials.
- Write and manage maintenance work orders and material requisitions as needed to complete tasks.
- High school diploma or GED equivalent.
- A minimum of 8 years of related work experience in technical facilities maintenance.
- Demonstrated technical expertise in plumbing maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair.
- Knowledge of OSHA standards and local codes.
- Ability to work independently, be on call 24/7 for emergencies, and possess excellent communication skills.
- Experience working in a UAW or other unionized industrial environment.
- A Journeyman or Master Plumber license.
- Specific experience with pressure boiler systems.
- Proficiency with a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
- Current certification to operate forklifts, aerial lifts, or other powered vehicular equipment.
