What this job involves: As an Operating Engineer at JLL, you will play a critical role in ensuring the reliable operation, maintenance, and repair of complex building systems and infrastructure. This position supports JLL’s commitment to operational excellence by maintaining high-performing, safe, and compliant facilities while minimizing service interruptions. You will work with advanced mechanical, electrical, and utility systems in a mission-critical environment, responding to both routine and emergency situations to ensure uninterrupted operations and outstanding client service.
What your day-to-day will look like:
- Inspect, monitor, and analyse building equipment and systems; diagnose malfunctions and perform corrective actions to minimize downtime
- Execute preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance activities on boilers, chillers, HVAC systems, and related building infrastructure
- Perform scheduled tours of boiler plants, chiller plants, lab utilities, cooling towers, generators, switchgear rooms, air handling units, steam stations, and condensate return systems
- Respond to emergencies during assigned shifts, including after-hours, and take independent corrective action while maintaining required watch duties
- Oversee or coordinate daily operations and maintenance activities performed by JLL staff and/or contractors; provide guidance and mentoring as needed
- Review and complete work orders, logs, and documentation to ensure accuracy and proper entry into the CMMS
- Maintain engineering and electrical spaces in a clean, safe, and organized condition at all times
- Ensure strict adherence to safety, environmental, OSHA, building code, and JLL policy requirements for all work performed on site
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Completion of trade schooling in electrical systems, refrigeration, or HVAC (minimum two years)
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in facility or plant engineering maintenance, including HVAC, plumbing, and electrical systems
- Proven ability to operate and maintain boilers, chillers, HVAC equipment, and building infrastructure
- Ability to respond to emergencies and work independently during after-hours shifts
- Physically able to lift up to 50 lbs, work on ladders up to 28’, perform overhead work, and work in confined spaces
- Proficiency with basic computer applications, including MS Office and email
- Previous supervisory or lead experience
- Exposure to HVAC systems, fluid handling and pumping, filtration systems, welding, and mechanical systems
- Experience operating high-pressure steam boilers and emergency generators
- Familiarity with CMMS systems and maintenance documentation practices
- Working knowledge of electrical systems engineering and operations
- Experience working in laboratory, industrial, or mission-critical facilities
