What this job involves: Reporting to the Director of Facilities, the Facility Manager provides strategic direction and accountability for all aspects of the physical plant, buildings, grounds, and capacity utilization. This leadership role maximizes the functionality and utilization of physical assets while minimizing risk and ensuring compliance with governmental regulations. You'll oversee small construction, and maintenance of facilities; manage departmental budgets; coordinate space allocation and facility expansion; and present plans and updates to site leadership teams.
Your day-to-day tasks will include:
- Supervise facilities personnel including interviewing, hiring, training, developing employees, directing work assignments, conducting performance appraisals, and addressing employee concerns in accordance with organizational policies
- Assist in Develop and implement long-term strategic plans for construction, renovation to support business needs, including growth metrics development and regular collaboration with peers and decision makers
- Establish, manage, and oversee the facilities department budget while ensuring appropriate resources are in place for project engineering, capital project delivery, and facilities management operations
- Oversee facility utilities, physical plant operations, HVAC distribution, support services, grounds, and custodial functions to ensure regulatory compliance and operational excellence
- Evaluate, select, and manage contractors and vendors for outside services; negotiate contracts for building and engineering design services; approve final work sign-off
- Verify schedule compliance for all facility expansion, renovation, and maintenance projects while providing leadership and vision to direct reports for continuous departmental improvement
- High school diploma/GED with 10 years of relevant facilities management experience
- Minimum 5 years in a people leader/supervisory role, preferably managing multiple teams
- Demonstrated knowledge of site facilities and vendor management, GxPs (Good Practice guidelines), and industry guidance documents
- Ability to communicate verbally and in writing at all levels inside and outside the organization
- Computer skills commensurate with essential duties and responsibilities, including the ability to learn validated systems
- Demonstrated ability to problem solve, make quick decisions, communicate decisions effectively, and lead/manage staff in a growing, changing environment
- Knowledge of standard business and accounting practices
- Knowledge of large scale boilers and chillers
- Bachelor's degree in facilities management, engineering, construction management with 8 years of relevant experience
- Contract research organization (CRO) experience
- Plant Engineering and/or Building trades license
- Basic familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite
- Experience in laboratory, pharmaceutical, or regulated research environments
- Experience managing facility expansion and renovation projects in compliance-driven industries
Physical Demands and Work Environment:
- Ability to work extended hours beyond normal work schedule including evenings, weekends, extended shifts, and extra shifts, sometimes on short notice
- Must be able to lift up to 80 lbs. and climb up to 30 ft ladders
- Position requires frequent climbing, bending, kneeling, lifting & etc.
- Work in various indoor and outdoor environment
- Ability to work under specific time constraints
