Technical Lead

JKMuir - Energy & Sustainability in Public Infrastructure
Rocky Hill, CT Full Time
POSTED ON 1/9/2026
AVAILABLE BEFORE 7/7/2026

JKMuir is seeking a Technical Leader to join our team! Fast paced and at the leading edge of technology and efficiency, JKMuir offers a team-oriented, collaborative, and engaging environment where you work directly with clients on projects that make a difference. In this role, you will serve as the technical authority for energy and sustainability initiatives, guiding project teams and ensuring high-quality, technically sound solutions that deliver real environmental and financial value.

As a Technical Lead, you will be responsible for setting technical direction, reviewing and validating analyses, and mentoring engineers and analysts across projects. You will lead complex technical work related to carbon accounting, energy and greenhouse gas calculations, and the integration of sustainability metrics into public infrastructure water/wastewater facilities, transportation, and urban design projects. Hands-on field engagement will allow you to connect theory with real-world systems, evaluate performance, and develop practical, implementable solutions. You will drive business growth by executing project deliverables; developing the technical skills of the team; ensuring high quality work products; and developing industry leading solutions for our clients.

The preferred candidate will have 6 to 15 years of relevant experience with deep expertise in energy systems, sustainability analysis, and data-driven decision-making. Strong technical skills in quantitative analysis, modeling, and data interpretation are essential. We love data and details—and we’re looking for someone who can ensure technical rigor while also helping others grow their capabilities.

Excellent written and oral communication skills are required, along with the ability to clearly explain complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences. The ideal candidate is self-motivated, adaptable, comfortable working independently, and confident leading technical discussions, reviews, and problem-solving efforts within a collaborative team environment.

JKMuir is making sustainable infrastructure a reality by supporting large-scale projects in New York City; along with municipalities and public agencies throughout the northeast - developing the detailed analytics around climate and carbon impacts, energy demand, waste diversion, and sustainable material sourcing. JKMuir is quantifying our impact by measuring energy and emissions reductions; and providing the analytics on what moves the climate needle.

Some team members work in the office every day, while others have a hybrid arrangement or are fully remote. Join our team and work remotely (if desired) and/or with a flexible, part-time schedule.

General responsibilities will include:

  • Oversee and guide advanced modeling and analytical efforts, including facility energy performance, GHG emissions, life‑cycle carbon assessments, sustainable materials evaluation, and waste‑diversion forecasting using Excel‑based tools and specialized software.
  • Direct the creation of comprehensive sustainability and Envision documentation, shaping project narratives and technical materials for major public infrastructure initiatives such as drinking water and wastewater facilities, transportation systems, and urban infrastructure programs.
  • Provide senior‑level technical review and interpretation of engineering reports, design drawings, construction specifications, and cost estimates, synthesizing these inputs into authoritative calculations and documentation related to energy use, emissions, carbon intensity, and sustainable material sourcing.
  • Design and manage the development of interactive dashboards and data‑visualization tools that communicate complex sustainability metrics to both technical and non‑technical audiences.
  • Lead energy evaluations, process system design, and the development of O&M manuals for water and wastewater treatment facilities, ensuring technical rigor and operational clarity.
  • Manage and deliver multidisciplinary projects with full accountability for scope, schedule, budget, and quality, proactively identifying risks and driving solutions that support successful project outcomes.
  • Cultivate strong collaborative relationships within project teams, providing technical leadership, mentoring junior staff, and ensuring the integration of sustainability principles into engineering analyses and client deliverables.
  • Serve as a primary client interface, facilitating discussions on sustainability metrics, operational processes, and project objectives while crafting compelling presentations for public officials, permitting agencies, regulators, and community stakeholders.
  • Lead the development of proposal materials, bringing strategic insight and technical expertise to support business development efforts.

Required Skills & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering
  • Technical experience in the analysis of GHG, carbon, and energy usage.
  • Knowledge of water/wastewater systems and processes
  • Must be able to meet deadlines and perform tasks efficiently within assigned timeframes
  • Must have excellent MS Office computer skills and technical writing skills
  • Must be able to work independently as well as with a team
  • Must be comfortable engaging with clients
  • Effective communication skills (verbal and written)

Preferred Skills & Experience:

  • 6 to 15 years of experience in municipal water/wastewater, sustainability and/or climate resilience with respect to public infrastructure
  • Professional experience preparing NYC (or similar) sustainability deliverables including Climate Risk Assessment and Adaptation Plan, Sustainability Management Plan, Sustainable Material Content Plan, Construction Waste Estimate Report, and Energy Profile Report
  • Familiarity with the Envision certification process
  • Familiarity with embodied carbon and/or greenhouse gas accounting
