The Vice President of Finance will serve as a strategic business partner to executive leadership while maintaining hands-on oversight of the company’s accounting and financial operations. Responsibilities
- Serve as a strategic financial leader and trusted advisor to the executive team, helping drive business growth, profitability, and operational excellence
- Lead the company’s financial strategy, forecasting, budgeting, and long-range planning efforts with a forward-looking and analytical approach
- Provide timely financial insights, KPI reporting, dashboards, and scenario modeling to support strategic decision-making
- Oversee all day-to-day accounting operations, including job costing, WIP schedules, progress billing, sales tax, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, general ledger, monthly close, and cost accounting
- Ensure accurate and timely financial reporting in accordance with GAAP and company policies
- Lead and mentor the Accounting Manager, Accounting Coordinator, and administrative accounting support team, fostering accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement
- Develop and maintain project and company-wide budgets in collaboration with executive leadership and project managers
- Monitor project financial performance, analyze variances, and proactively identify risks, trends, and opportunities for improvement
- Drive cash flow management and forecasting activities to ensure the business is positioned for continued growth and stability
- Partner closely with operations and project leadership to improve financial visibility and profitability across projects
- Identify and implement process improvements, automation opportunities, and operational efficiencies across finance and accounting functions
- Oversee and manage the company’s outsourced IT function
- Serve as the primary liaison to the company’s outsourced HR partner, ensuring efficient payroll processes and effective utilization of HR services
- Work closely with external CPA firms and industry consultants to support annual financial statements, tax strategy, and compliance initiatives
- Ensure accurate multi-state sales tax compliance and reporting
- Review contracts and financial agreements to ensure appropriate controls, risk mitigation, and compliance
- Conduct ongoing financial and operational analysis to identify cost-saving opportunities and support continuous improvement initiatives
- Collaborate cross-functionally with project managers, vendors, contractors, and leadership to support successful project execution and company objectives
- Stay current on industry trends, construction finance best practices, and evolving regulatory requirements
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required; CPA and/or MBA strongly preferred
- 7 years of progressive accounting and finance leadership experience, including significant experience within construction, project-based, or commercial contracting environments
- Strong understanding of construction accounting principles, including job costing, percentage-of-completion accounting, WIP schedules, progress billing, and revenue recognition
- Proven ability to balance strategic financial leadership with hands-on operational accounting responsibilities
- Demonstrated success in financial forecasting, budgeting, cash flow management, and business analytics
- Highly analytical with strong business acumen and the ability to translate financial data into actionable insights
- Strong leadership presence with the ability to bring energy, urgency, accountability, and a collaborative mindset to the organization
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively partner with both financial and non-financial stakeholders
- Experience leading and developing high-performing teams in a fast-paced, growth-oriented environment
- Advanced proficiency in accounting systems, ERP platforms, and Microsoft Excel
- Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines simultaneously
Salary Range
- $140-175k
