Job Summary
The Field Service Engineer at Jim Myers & Sons (JMS) will play a pivotal customer-facing role in ensuring that our equipment is properly installed, commissioned, and maintained to meet the highest standards. As a senior-level technical ambassador, this role will be responsible for supervising mechanical installations, conducting system startups, and leading troubleshooting efforts across a wide range of electromechanical systems. Collaboration with internal project teams will support this role in navigating challenges and receiving necessary assistance. This role requires significant travel and offers the opportunity to work on complex projects in diverse industrial and municipal settings.
Responsibilities
- Serve as the primary on-site technical expert during equipment installation, startup, commissioning, and troubleshooting
- Execute complex diagnostics and service activities involving mechanical, electrical, and controls systems
- Provide clear training to plant operators and maintenance personnel on equipment operation, safety, and preventive maintenance
- Conduct root cause analysis and generate detailed technical service reports for internal and external stakeholders
- Document all field activities, observations, and recommendations; submit timely service and expense reports.
- Collaborate closely with project engineers, controls specialists, and the design team to improve project execution and equipment performance
- Participate in post-installation service and support, including warranty and non-warranty visits
- Conduct field readiness assessments and lead job site evaluations during project turnover
- Maintain active communication with customers and internal stakeholders regarding scheduling, service status, and potential risks
- Represent JMS with professionalism, confidence, and technical expertise at customer facilities across the U.S
Qualifications, Desired Experience, and Skills
- 3 years of experience in a field service or industrial construction environment, preferably with equipment start-up, diagnostics, and commissioning
- Strong background in electrical systems and controls; ability to troubleshoot PLC panels, motor starters, VFDs, and relay logic
- Familiarity with industrial programming, plant-level integration, and interfacing with SCADA systems is a major plus
- Demonstrated experience in working independently and resolving complex technical issues under pressure
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to represent JMS confidently in customer-facing environments
- Valid driver’s license
- Ability and willingness to travel approximately 85% of the time, including occasional weekends
Education
- Associate’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Technology, Industrial Automation, or a closely related technical field. Equivalent military or technical experience will also be considered
