We are currently seeking a Sheet Metal Technician (30084) to support our NSWC customer in Crane, IN. The ideal candidate will be able to perform the following duties, as well as possess the following education and experience:
Duties:
- Perform sheet metal repair, refurbishment, and component fabrication for airborne systems, primarily supporting ALQ-218 and ALQ-99 workloads.
- Prototype, fabricate, and modify new hardware, tooling, and fixturing to support ongoing projects.
- Review engineering drawings and specifications to identify material compatibility concerns, special tooling requirements, and opportunities to improve producibility.
- Recommend design changes to engineering and project management to optimize manufacturing processes and reduce cost.
- Design and/or fabricate special tools, dies, and fixtures needed to execute specialized jobs.
- Repair and upgrade avionics structures based on drawings, technical manuals, and system requirements.
- Determine required materials, joining/fastening methods, and replacement hardware needed to accomplish assigned tasks.
- Fabricate and install sheet metal and machined components of varying complexity using aluminum alloys (machined, sheet, tubing), titanium, and various steel alloys.
Required Education:
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
Required Experience:
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in sheet metal repair/fabrication.
- Strong proficiency in aluminum sheet metal fabrication, including disassembly and reassembly techniques, rivet installation, and related processes.
- Ability to read, interpret, and apply technical manuals, drawings, and specifications.
- Able to follow written, verbal, and drawing-based instruction sets.
- Capable of fabricating and assembling parts from drawings or verbal direction.
- Strong professional communication skills with technicians, engineers, QA, and support staff.
- Demonstrated mechanical aptitude and experience with hand tools related to sheet metal repair.
Working Conditions:
- Must be able to stand for extended periods; may also be required to sit, squat, twist, or work in unusual positions.
- Must tolerate short periods of heavy vibration.
- Exposure to hazards such as high noise levels, airborne debris, milling machinery, sharp cutting equipment, and sharp metal edges.
- Must be able to pass an annual physical.
This position is covered by the Service Contract Labor Standard under a Wage Determination. As such Under the SCA selected candidates are entitled to both the hourly rate aforementioned and a health and welfare benefit. Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance. Due to the sensitivity of customer-related requirements, U.S. Citizenship is required.
