POSITION SUMMARY
What makes a great PJ Library Parent Connector?
A successful PJ Library Parent Connector is warm, compassionate, and genuinely interested in getting to know new families. Their personal knowledge, experiences, and involvement in the Jewish community allow them to connect families to additional local program opportunities. A connector enthusiastically leads creative programs in Cleveland, tailoring to the interests of families.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Reach New Families
- Identify and approach potential new PJ Library families.
- Warmly welcome new families with a follow up email/call/text within 24 hours of meeting/being introduced with an offer to meet for coffee/playdate or personalized connections or recommendations based on the family’s interests and needs.
- Identify new places and ways to promote PJ Library and local programming (e.g., community events, Jewish-owned businesses).
- Meet unconnected families at the secular spaces where they are (i.e., Solon Library story time, community recreation center, music classes, Legacy Village food trucks, playgrounds – programs beyond the tot Shabbats or other Jewish programs).
- Enroll new family’s child/children in PJ Library.
- Encourage families to “invite a friend” to all local gatherings.
- Offer a Welcome Baby or Welcome Tot gift bag to eligible families.
Design Engaging Programs
- Create an environment where families feel welcome and want to come back.
- Create programming based on needs and interests of families.
- Vary program activities, locations (public space, Jewish space, private home) and time of day/week to attract new families.
- Bring a Jewish element to PJ Library family encounters (either by self or with aid of other Jewish professionals in community).
- Planning Goal: create plans for programming 2-3 months at a time.
- Set goal for each program – how does the program meet the mission of PJ Library?
- Complete planning sheet for each event.
Social Media Management
- Craft caring, supportive, and inclusive Facebook and WhatsApp groups.
- Invite new families to our Facebook and WhatsApp groups.
- Post articles, questions, and other content that encourage sharing amongst the group.
- Share information about events and services in the community to our groups.
- Use groups to generate excitement and introductions to even more new parents.
Report and Document
- Record each program and attendance numbers.
- Track encounters with each individual family: one-to-one meetings, phone calls, connections with other Jewish opportunities in the community.
- Track hours and activity through ADP.
- Collect and share with program professional conversations they have had with families illustrating the wider Jewish community.
