Description PLAN People Living Active Now is a program of Jewish Family Service of Dallas dedicated to recovery support for adults struggling with diagnosed mental health issues. PLAN is a launch pad to assist its members in pursuing their goals and attain independence and self sufficiency in community. PLAN at 1121 Rock, an accredited full time Clubhouse organization, is seeking Mental Health Peer Specialists to participate in the Clubhouse and work as part of the PLAN Connections team. Experience in working with Young Adults is a plus.
Job Role and Purpose The Mental Health Peer Specialist (MHPS) will use their lived experience and their experience with the Clubhouse WOD program to help other adults in their mental health recovery.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Be knowledgeable about the overall operations of the PLAN at 1121 Rock, its values, culture, and the expectations for its members.
- Must understand the qualifications for Clubhouse membership and be able to properly evaluate potential members to assess who might benefit from the Clubhouse WOD program and who might better benefit from other programs or resources.
- Be able to have difficult conversations with clients and/or other stakeholders
- Able to work with the PLAN Connections Case Manager in finding and linking both new members and non‐members to appropriate resources and programs in the DFW area.
- Use MHPS skills in a professional manner, work to help members that are struggling with issues, model healthy interactions with others.
- Be able to work alone and as a part of a team utilizing skills such as motivational interviewing, using aspects of your own story, and compassionate listening and trauma-informed care.
- Give a comprehensive tour of PLAN at 1121 Rock, including Clubhouse International standards, PLAN values, and community expectations.
- Be able to complete a Wellness Recovery Action Plan with new members.
- Be able to knowledgably and enthusiastically facilitate relevant classes for members.
- Follow a curriculum for sessions with a participant in the UTSW Rise (Recovery through Inspiration, Support and Empowerment) Program
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or GED
- Current up to date MHPS Mental Health Peer Specialist TCBAP certification
- Self identify as having direct personal experience living with mental illness and recovery, with a primary diagnosis of mental illness or dual diagnosis.
- One 1 year of experience working on recovery and ability to manage own wellness
- Agree to disclose own mental illness diagnosis for the purpose of educating, role modeling and providing hope to others about the reality of recovery.
- Must maintain required credentials and mandatory training requirements to ensure compliance with all Texas state regulations.
- Participate as a member in good standing at the PLAN at 1121 Rock as a member leader
- Be able to manage the dynamic of being in a staff role in the PLAN Connection team, and simultaneously, a member of the Clubhouse WOD program.
