Position Summary: 

The Social Services Caseworker will be part of a collaborative team dedicated to supporting individuals and families as they navigate life in a new country. This role involves providing comprehensive case management to help clients overcome barriers and access essential resources such as healthcare, public benefits, education, housing, and employment opportunities. The Caseworker will work closely with families to set and achieve personal goals, promote self-sufficiency, and foster community integration. 

In addition to one-on-one supportthe Social Services Caseworker will support the Refugee and Immigrant Services department organize and facilitate group activities that promote peer connection, cultural orientation, and mutual support among immigrant and refugee communities. These activities may include mentoring sessions and community-building events. Flexibility is required, as some programming may occur during evenings or weekends. 

 

Duties and Responsibilities  

Direct Service & Case Management 

  • Conduct comprehensive client assessments to help clients enroll in case management and refugee employment programs to identify gaps in services, English proficiency, medical needs, housing, and other needs. 
  • Develop individualized short- and long-term case management plans focused on achieving self-sufficiency This includes clients receiving intensive case management services and specific needs-based services.  
  • Provide referrals and coordinate services with partner agencies, county human service providers, schools, healthcare systems, and government entities. 
  • Assist clients with renewing benefits, applying for subsidized housing, scheduling medical appointments, and navigating public transportation. 
  • Facilitate home visits to educate clients on various topics based on clients' service plans and set goals.  
  • Serve as an advocate to ensure clients understand and access available resources confidently and independently. 
  • Work collaboratively with interpreters, volunteers, mentors, and interns to support client needs. 
  • Travel across Allegheny County and nearby counties, specifically Washington County, to meet clients in person during 1:1 meetings, group sessions, or office hours.  

Client Engagement & Education 

  • Facilitate one-on-one and group sessions to promote learning, resource sharing, skill-building, and social connection. 
  • Participate in outreach efforts to immigrant and underserved communities. 

Documentation & Data Management 

  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation of services, client progress, and milestone achievements in electronic systems (e.g., Apricot database) and paper files. 
  • Ensure compliance with confidentiality and privacy guidelines to protect client information. 

Professional Development & Collaboration 

  • Maintain a strengths-based, enthusiastic, and collaborative approach with clients, staff, and community partners. 
  • Participate in ongoing professional development, staff meetings, and organizational trainings. 
  • Support and guide volunteers, mentors, and interns involved in program activities. 

Other Duties 

  • Perform additional tasks as assigned to support programs goals and organizational mission. 

 

Qualifications: 

  • Experience providing services to refugees and immigrants in the United States or overseas is preferable.  
  • Creativity, innovation, curiosity, and patience are essential skills.  
  • Must have excellent English (spoken and written) 
  • Top-level organizational and communication skills  
  • The ability to work under strict deadlines.  
  • Comfortable making home visits to clients living throughout the region.  
  • Comfort with inputting information into data systems.  
  • Must work well as part of a team with case workers, employment specialists, interpreters, and others.  
  • Must be sensitive to cultural differences of clients and staff from diverse background 
  • Able to work flexible hours.  
  • Access to a vehicle is required 
  • First-person experience as an immigrant is a plus.  
  • Bachelor’s Degree a plus. 

Physical Requirements: 

  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer. 
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
