What are the responsibilities and job description for the Part-Time Career Guidance Counselor position at Jewish Community Council of Greater Coney Island (JCCGCI)?
The Career Guidance Counselor will play a key role in helping young Chabad men and women successfully navigate the transition from education into the workforce by providing personalized career guidance, access to training opportunities, mentorship, and professional development resources.
The ideal candidate is passionate about helping individuals discover their strengths, identify realistic career opportunities, and build a clear pathway toward long-term professional and financial success while understanding the values and needs of the Chabad community.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide one-on-one career counseling to help participants identify their strengths, interests, and career goals.
- Administer and interpret career, personality, and aptitude assessments.
- Develop individualized career plans and guide participants toward education, training, certification, and employment opportunities.
- Research and maintain career pathway resources, including education requirements, training programs, costs, timelines, and labor market information.
- Build partnerships with schools, training providers, workforce organizations, and employers.
- Manage the career education scholarship/grant process, including application review, eligibility determination, participant support, and outcome tracking.
- Plan and facilitate workshops on career exploration, workplace readiness, professional development, and education pathways.
- Recruit industry professionals to lead career presentations, panels, and networking events.
- Develop and coordinate a career mentorship program by recruiting mentors, matching participants, and supporting mentor relationships.
- Organize career exposure opportunities such as job shadowing, workplace visits, informational interviews, and industry networking events.
- Maintain accurate participant records and prepare program reports as required.
Qualifications:
- Bachelors degree or equivalent experience required
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to connect with young adults.
- Understanding of the Chabad community, values, and educational background.
- Passion for helping individuals achieve career and financial independence.
- Experience in career counseling, coaching, education, workforce development, HR, recruiting, or related fields preferred.
- Ability to research and organize information into clear, practical resources.
- Strong communication, program development, and organizational skills.
- Ability to build relationships with professionals, educators, and community partners.
On-site, centrally located in crown heights
Part-Time, 15-20 hours per week
Pay: $55.00 - $60.00 per hour
