Job Overview
The Jewish Community Center (JCC) of Binghamton is seeking a caring, energetic, and dependable Assistant Toddler Teacher to join our Early Childhood team. In this role, you will work alongside the Lead Teacher to provide a safe, nurturing, and engaging environment where toddlers can learn, explore, and grow.
As an Assistant Teacher, you will help create meaningful learning experiences that support each child's social, emotional, physical, and cognitive development while building strong relationships with children, families, and coworkers. Essential Responsibilities
- Support the Lead Teacher in implementing developmentally appropriate curriculum and daily classroom activities.
- Create a warm, welcoming, and inclusive environment where every child feels safe, valued, and encouraged to learn.
- Supervise and actively engage with toddlers during indoor play, outdoor play, meals, rest time, and transitions.
- Assist with diapering, toileting, handwashing, feeding, and other daily care routines while maintaining children's dignity and following health and safety guidelines.
- Help maintain a clean, organized, and safe classroom that meets OCFS licensing standards.
- Foster children's social-emotional development through positive guidance and respectful interactions.
- Observe children's development and communicate observations with the Lead Teacher.
- Build positive relationships with families by providing daily communication regarding their child's experiences and progress.
- Assist with classroom preparation, cleaning, organization, and material setup.
- Follow all JCC policies, OCFS regulations, health and safety procedures, and confidentiality requirements.
- Work collaboratively with fellow teachers, specialists, and administration to support the success of every child.
- Participate in required trainings, staff meetings, and professional development opportunities.
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Experience working with young children in a childcare center, preschool, nanny, babysitting, or similar setting preferred.
- Genuine passion for working with toddlers and supporting their development.
- Ability to work collaboratively as part of a professional teaching team.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to lift up to 40 pounds and actively participate in classroom activities, including sitting on the floor, bending, and lifting children when necessary.
- CPR and First Aid certification, or willingness to obtain upon hire.
Preferred Qualifications
- Child Development Associate (CDA) credential or coursework in Early Childhood Education.
- Knowledge of child development and developmentally appropriate practices.
- Experience working with children with diverse learning needs or developmental differences.
- Familiarity with OCFS regulations and licensing standards.
