Position Overview

The Aaron Family JCC is seeking an experienced Special Education Teacher to lead a structured Inclusion Resource Program within our summer camp environment.

This role operates as a “classroom within a classroom” model — providing specialized academic, behavioral, and social-emotional support to campers with identified special needs while fully integrating them into the broader camp experience.

Campers on the teacher’s caseload will begin and end their day within the resource setting and transition in and out of mainstream camp activities with structured support, individualized plans, and intentional skill-building.

This position blends the structure of a special education classroom with the energy, flexibility, and joy of summer camp.

Key Responsibilities

Program Leadership

• Design and lead a structured resource-based inclusion program within the camp setting.
• Create a predictable daily routine that supports regulation, skill development, and successful transitions.
• Maintain a safe, supportive, and organized learning environment.

Camper Support

• Develop and implement individualized support strategies for campers with special needs.
• Address behavioral, social, emotional, and developmental needs.
• Support transitions between resource time and mainstream camp activities.
• Teach social skills, coping strategies, and executive functioning skills as needed.
• Monitor camper progress and adjust plans accordingly.

Collaboration

• Partner closely with Camp Directors and the Mental Health & Inclusion Specialist.
• Collaborate with counselors and unit heads to support inclusion in general camp programming.
• Communicate proactively with families before and during the summer.
• Provide coaching and strategies to camp staff working with campers on the caseload.

Documentation & Compliance

• Maintain accurate documentation of support plans, strategies, and parent communication.
• Ensure confidentiality and professionalism in all records.
• Track behavioral trends and intervention outcomes.

Pre-Summer Preparation (Part-Time: May 1 – May 24)

• Review camper intake information and IEPs (if applicable).
• Connect with families to gather background and establish goals.
• Develop individualized support frameworks.
• Assist in designing inclusion training modules for staff.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Special Education.
• Valid teaching certification in Special Education preferred.
• Minimum of 3years experience working with children with special needs.
• Strong knowledge of behavior intervention strategies and differentiated instruction.
• Experience developing and implementing individualized education or support plans.
• Ability to create structure within a flexible camp environment.
• Excellent communication skills with parents and multidisciplinary teams.
• Patience, creativity, and a strong belief in inclusive community.
• Professional in appearance, manner and tone.
• A team player who possesses the ability to work in a collaborative environment.
