Position Summary

At the Indianapolis Jewish Community Center (JCC), our staff are our most valuable asset. The Vice President of Human Resources (VP of HR) is a key member of the Executive Team, responsible for shaping and executing a people-first strategy that aligns with the JCC’s mission, values, and long-term vision. This role leads organizational development, workforce planning, and change management efforts, while fostering a culture of excellence, inclusion, and accountability. The VP of HR will serve as a strategic advisor to senior leadership and oversee all aspects of human resources, including talent acquisition, employee engagement, compliance, and leadership development. 

 

Primary Responsibilities & Duties

Strategic Leadership

  • Develop and implement long-term HR strategies aligned with organizational goals.
  • Lead initiatives to transform organizational culture and enhance employee experience.
  • Oversee workforce planning, succession planning, and organizational design.
  • Champion JCC equity, diversity and inclusion (JEDI) across all levels of the organization.

 

Executive Collaboration

  • Serve as a strategic advisor to the CFO and Executive Team.
  • Participate in executive-level planning, budgeting, and decision-making.
  • Represent HR in board meetings and strategic planning meetings.
  • Provide insight on HR implication of organizational initiatives and policy changes.

 

Organizational Development & Change Management

  • Lead change management efforts to support growth and innovation.
  • Design and implement leadership development and coaching programs.
  • Design and implement performance management and employee development strategies.

 

Risk & Compliance Oversight

  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations.
  • Lead crisis response planning related to workforce issues.
  • Oversee investigations, disciplinary actions, and resolution of sensitive employee matters.

 

Talent Acquisition & Lifecycle Management

  • Oversee recruitment, onboarding, performance reviews, and offboarding processes.
  • Ensure fair employment practices and alignment with JEDI goals.
  • Expand and optimize HRIS (ADP) capabilities for talent management and analytics.
  • Manage employee benefits, compensation, and wellness programs.

 

Training & Compliance

  • Collaborate with department leaders to identify skill gaps and training needs.
  • Ensure job descriptions are current, compliant and aligned with the organizational needs.
  • Deliver training programs and support compliance, performance, and leadership growth.

 

 

Required Competencies

  • Exceptional communication, interpersonal, and conflict resolution skills.
  • Strategic thinking with strong analytical and organizational abilities.
  • Proven ability to lead with integrity, professionalism, and confidentiality.
  • Deep knowledge of employment law, HR best practices, and regulatory compliance.
  • Proficiency in HRIS systems (ADP) and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment.

 

Education & Experience

 

  • Education: Master’s degree preferred (e.g., MBA, MS in HR or Organizational Development).
  • Experience: 7-10 years in HR leadership, including executive-level roles.
  • Certifications: SHRM-SCP or SPHR strongly preferred.
  • Leadership: Demonstrated success in leading cross-functional team and managing organizational change.

 

 

Work Environment

 

  • Primarily office-based with extended periods of computer and desk work.
  • Occasional lifting of office supplies (up to 25 pounds).
  • Must be able to navigate the building and grounds as needed.
  • Flexibility to work additional hours or weekends as required.
