Under the direction of a Master’s-level supervisor, you will provide critical crisis intervention, protective services, and social casework for older adults who are mentally or physically impaired, abused, or neglected. This role operates on both a voluntary and involuntary basis, requiring a high level of professional judgment and a commitment to elder justice.

🌟 Why You’ll Love Working at JASA

JASA is one of NYC’s largest and most trusted nonprofits serving older adults. Our dedicated professionals help improve the lives of thousands of seniors through impactful, mission-driven work.

  • Meaningful Impact: Serve as a lifeline for the most vulnerable seniors in NYC, providing protection and stability in crisis situations.

  • Collaborative Environment: Work closely with senior leadership and a rotating team of professional and supervisory staff.

  • Professional Leadership: Opportunity to supervise community aides, interns, and volunteers while representing the agency at community conferences.

📝 What You’ll Be Doing

You will manage a complex caseload, performing everything from emergency triage to long-term protective planning.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Crisis Triage & Intake: Conduct preliminary screenings and triage for emergency interventions; provide immediate information and referral services to clients and families.

  • Comprehensive Assessment: Perform in-home and in-office assessments of social and emotional needs using standardized instruments (e.g., PSA, EISEP-PATH).

  • Case Planning & Implementation: Develop written case plans including individual/family counseling, benefit screening, and arrangement of services (Home Health Aides, Legal Aid, Housing, etc.).

  • Financial & Legal Protection: Evaluate clients' capacity to manage their affairs; assist in securing financial management or guardianship to prevent elder abuse and financial exploitation.

  • Field Monitoring: Conduct ongoing in-home visits to monitor risk, evaluate functioning, and revise case plans in real-time.

  • Emergency Response & On-Call: Participate in a rotating on-call schedule (evenings/weekends/holidays). Respond to "cold weather days" and crisis situations requiring emergency medical or court-ordered actions.

  • Documentation: Complete required case records, reports, and statistics within mandated timeframes utilizing specialized software.

🎓 What You’ll Need

  • Education: Graduate of an accredited college or university with a BSW or BA/BS (Psychology or Gerontology preferred).

  • Technical Skills: Computer literacy and the ability to maintain meticulous records.

  • Communication: Proficiency in English required; knowledge of Yiddish, Russian, Spanish, or Patois is helpful.

  • Physical Requirements: Ability to travel to clients’ homes using mass transit and navigate physical barriers (stairs, etc.) in residences.

  • Core Values: Ability to understand and appreciate the roles of race, religion, ethnicity, and sexual orientation in serving a diverse client base.

🎁 Benefits at a Glance

JASA offers a comprehensive benefits package designed to support your well-being and future:

  • Health & Wellness: Medical, dental, and vision coverage, plus Employee Wellness Programs and an EAP.

  • Retirement Savings: 403(b) plan with Roth option and an employer-funded pension.

  • Generous Time Off: Four weeks of vacation, plus holidays, floating holidays, and sick days.

  • Work Style: Flexible hybrid work environment and ongoing professional development opportunities.
