Schedule: Monday–Friday, 9:00 AM–5:00 PM (35 hours per week)
General Responsibilities:
The Associate Director of Development will be an integral member of the staff of the JASA Development and Communications department. This individual acts as the right-hand person to the Chief External Relations Officer, and spearheads institutional giving and data integrity initiatives. Experience with organizing and writing grants is required.
The position is an excellent opportunity for a highly motivated candidate to gain experience with, and contribute to, all elements of JASA’s revenue diversification strategy.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities:
Fundraising:Manages institutional funding sources, including researching prospective grantors, ensuring timely LOIs and proposals as well as accurate and relevant reporting. Seeks new opportunities for programmatic funding and general support.
Manage agency relationships with institutional funders, both current and prospective.
Collaborate with departmental, program, finance, executive, and other JASA staff, consultants, and board members to develop compelling proposals, reports, letters, and other correspondence.
Research, liaise with, and represent JASA to representatives of funding institutions, building upon the existing portfolio and increasing revenue from institutional sources.
Ensure proper grant spending, financial allocations, and reporting functions.
Contribute to the organization’s year-round resource development strategy.
Spearhead various fundraising campaigns including: coordinating gathering information from staff and clients, managing project from start to finish including setting up webpage, preparing the mailing, associated social media campaign, outreach to individual and corporate donors, volunteers, press and more.
Oversees all direct mail campaigns, determining criteria and preparing mailing lists for direct mail pieces, coordinating with printers and designers, obtaining necessary approvals, and reviewing electronic and hard copy proofs.
Engage in and supervise all prospect research efforts, helping to create meaningful paths to stewardship and donor cultivation.
Develop and implement a comprehensive planned giving program: identify and cultivate potential planned gift donors; prepare presentations for prospective donors; maintain detailed records of donor interactions and planned giving activities; coordinate stewardship activities to recognize and honor planned gift donors; develop marketing materials, communication strategies, and donor recognition events for planned giving.
Stewardship of individual donors giving in memory or in honor of relatives and/clients and monthly donors.
Track and prepare written reports about fundraising progress, including creation of the Development Progress Report for the Board of Trustees. Use data effectively to strategize on donor stewardship and solicitation activities. Work with other members of the External Relations team to identify potential prospects.
Oversee the Development Associate. Together, they will ensure that every donor inquiry is responded to in a timely manner; that each gift is processed and acknowledged in a timely manner; that the Raisers Edge database records are maintained and updated.
Project Management, Financial Oversight, and Data Integrity:
Oversees the maintenance of electronic records and files on all donor relationships and projects, and supervises acknowledgement letter process.
Develop fundraising tracking materials for the Development Committee of the Board of Trustees, including finding new ways to analyze and present data.
Processes gifts, through scanning checks and manually entering them into Raiser’s Edge and importing online donations to Raiser’s Edge.
Oversee and assist with the preparation of acknowledgement letters, tax receipts, invitations, and other written communication to donors.
Serve as department liaison with the finance department including: answering questions about reconciling and allocating restricted gifts; website registrations; and more.
Develop, monitor and evaluate the fundraising plans and long-term strategic goals in collaboration with the Chief External Relations Officer.
Support data integrity, data cleanup, and data entry processes to ensure the completeness and accuracy of information and to optimize stewardship efforts, including adding new information to donor records, creating new fields to optimize effectiveness of CDCO communication with individual donors.
Miscellaneous:
Contributes to the planning, execution, and follow-up on events such fundraising galas, cultivation events, committee meetings, and/or others as needed.
Update JASA’s information across many third party websites including: Guidestar, Charity Navigator, Benevity, Fidelity, and more.
Collaborates on development of promotional materials.
Supports departmental communications efforts as needed.
Development and maintenance of JASA website, coordinating with the communications team, external consultants, and the JASA IT department.
Additional tasks as assigned.
Requirements:
Prior fundraising experience with requesting and managing grants from private grantmakers.
Knowledge of Raisers Edge strongly preferred.
Bachelor degree required; advanced degree preferred.
Minimum of 5 years of directly related, progressively responsible work experience.
Outstanding written and verbal communications skills, and proficiency writing cogently about complex topics
Ability to handle confidential information with sensitivity and discretion
Ability to complete assignments efficiently, independently set priorities, meet deadlines, multi-task, and interact with staff, board, supporters and collaborators in a professional and courteous manner
Willingness to travel throughout the New York City including the 5 boroughs and Long Island
Must be computer literate, and willing to learn program-specific software.
Must be able to communicate in English, both verbally and written.
This position requires proficiency in Raisers Edge, the current edition of Microsoft Suite (word, excel, outlook) and Google applications. Proficiency in communications technologies and platforms such as mail merge software, Canva, Facebook, Twitter, and other social media, and Adobe Suite preferred.
