Position Summary

The Grant Writer is responsible for leading all grant-related activities across JAFCO, including research, writing, submission, reporting, and funder relationship management. This role supports all JAFCO programs, JAFCO’s Children’s Village, Children’s Ability Center, Eagles’ Haven, and Family Matters, ensuring alignment with the organization’s mission

Role and Responsibilities

This person’s job responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Grant Strategy & Pipeline Development
    • Build and manage a comprehensive grant pipeline (foundation, corporate, and government sources)
    • Identify new funding opportunities aligned with each program’s needs and growth strategy
    • Develop annual and multi-year grant strategies in partnership with leadership
    • Maintain a grants calendar with deadlines, reporting requirements, and renewal timelines
  • Proposal Development & Submission
    • Write compelling, high-quality grant proposals, LOIs, and applications
    • Translate programmatic work into clear, data-driven narratives
    • Collaborate with program leaders to gather outcomes, budgets, and impact stories
    • Ensure all submissions are accurate, complete, and aligned with funder priorities
  • Reporting & Compliance
    • Prepare and submit timely grant reports (programmatic and financial)
    • Track outcomes and ensure compliance with funder requirements
    • Work with finance and program teams to align reporting data and budgets
    • Maintain detailed documentation of all grant activity
  • Data & Tracking
    • Utilize database and technology tools to track relevant grant data
    • Support database functions across development areas
    • Backup database team on donor and grant processing information
  • Funder Relationship Management
    • Serve as a primary point of contact for institutional funders
    • Coordinate site visits, tours, and funder engagement opportunities
    • Develop stewardship strategies to support renewals and long-term partnerships
    • Collaborate with leadership on strategic funder communications
  • Internal Collaboration
    • Partner with program leaders across:
    • Children’s Village, Children’s Ability Center, Eagles’ Haven, Family Matters
    • Support cross-program funding opportunities and integrated proposals
    • Align grant strategy with broader development and organizational goals
  • Perform additional responsibilities as assigned to support agency operations

Physical Requirements

This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.  The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms. This position requires the ability to occasionally lift office products and supplies, up to 20 pounds

Qualifications and Education Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required 
  • 3–5 years of grant writing experience (human services preferred)
  • Proven track record of securing institutional funding
  • Experience with CRM systems (e.g., DonorPerfect) preferred
  • Strong collaboration skills across multidisciplinary teams
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • Comfortable working with database systems
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Professional demeanor and presentation
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently and exercise sound judgment
  • Ability to remain calm and effective in a fast-paced environment
