POSITION/JOB TITLE: Plant Controller - Jewell Resources

DEPARTMENT: Accounting

DIRECT SUPERVISOR: Vice President and Controller

TRAVEL: Minimal

OVERVIEW: Plans, organizes, directs, and controls the accounting department and control functions of the organization. Prepares annual budget and monthly forecast in coordination with corporate financial, planning and analysis and plant operations. Provides analytical support to operations and corporate functions.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Responsible for monthly plant financial close process, including general ledger, cost accounting, sales, production, inventory, purchase coal, capital spend, invoice review and reconciliation, and operating and maintenance expense
  • Reviews, approves, and evaluates work to ensure quality, timeliness and adherence to policies and procedures
  • Responsible for preparing and presenting variances to budget, forecast and prior year.
  • Prepares and presents monthly, quarterly and annual financial reporting requirements, ensuring accuracy and completeness
  • Supervises the Accounting Department
  • Ensure company transactions are recorded in accordance with GAAP policies
  • Maintains system of accounts and keeps books and records on all transactions and assets
  • Collaborates closely with plant management to develop and execute strategic financial plans, including forecasting, setting the annual budget, and understanding how changes in operations impact the accounting records (revenue recognition, inventory valuation, etc.)
  • Interfaces with operating departments for accounting needs. Provides analytical support to operations for evaluation of performance and operating decisions
  • Collaborates with third party inventory terminals to obtain accurate sales records and inventory valuation
  • Coordinates activities with internal and external auditors and ensures compliance with all internal controls and external regulations, including SOX
  • Performs review of quarterly coal surveys and ensures results are recorded in accordance with GAAP policies
  • Coordinates activities to ensure timeliness of monthly, quarterly and year-end accounting reporting requirements
  • Coordinates activities to ensure timely and accurate monthly reporting to corporate functions, including financial planning and analysis and financial reporting
  • Coordinates activities to ensure timely submission of annual budget and monthly forecasting. Responsible for capital budgeting and tracking of capital spend
  • Capital projects approval, evaluations and justifications
  • Participate in operation meetings to provide support in areas such as the safety program, monthly and quarterly communications meetings, and plant walk around evaluations
  • Provides other company facilities with related information required by them to carry out their assigned responsibilities, including communicating monthly results to the Plant General Manager
  • Completes ERP system testing for routine quarterly patch deliveries and enhancement requests
  • Identify and drive opportunities to improve financial processes, implement new procedures, and enhance efficiency and productivity
  • Travels to corporate offices or other plant locations periodically as required to attend meetings and trainings
  • Trains and coaches team members in efficient work procedures, safe work practices, and good housekeeping practices. Coaches and encourages development and growth of skills and abilities. Establish goals for direct reports that also align with plant and corporate objectives
  • Maintains compliance with appropriate federal, State and local safety and/or environmental permits, regulations, reports and notifies appropriate plant personnel of any deviations per established standards; maintains appropriate records and reports as required by regulations
  • Works effectively with Team Members at all levels of the organization within areas of responsibility, consulting with Human Resources, corporate resources or other parties as necessary
  • Assumes other special activities and responsibilities as required

TECHNICAL SKILLS: Excellent financial analysis capabilities. Ability to communicate complex financial issues in simple, understandable terms. Exceptional computer software skills. Working knowledge of manual and automated accounting systems. Strong analytical and reasoning abilities. Superior numeric skills. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from top management, groups of managers, and customers. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. Well organized. Participative management style – advocates team concept. Well-developed interpersonal skills. Ability to get along well with diverse personalities. Ability to establish credibility and be decisive. Must be able to recognize and support the organization’s preferences and priorities. Ability to perform multifaceted projects in conjunction with normal activities.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS / WORK EXPERIENCE: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting required; MBA preferred. Eight-ten years of experience with management skills, experience in manufacturing industry preferred.

CERTIFICATIONS: CPA certification is desired but not required.

Salary : $120,000 - $151,000
