Machine Operator
Associates will
be responsible for setting up their machine, feeding and operating their
machine to meet production goals. In addition, Machine Operators will be asked
to do some light trouble shooting and clearing of jams to assure maximum
efficiency. In addition, operators play a key role in checking and maintaining
the quality of our final pieces of mail.

A
Lettershop Machine Operator for JSM’s Operations Group will control and utilize equipment to produce mail
product (printed material, envelopes, or mail pieces) according to customer’s
guidelines and standard operating procedures.
Essential Functions:
· Prepare
pallets and trays and identify pallet and tray breaks while sorting mail.
· Read
production orders to determine types, sizes, and codes of items scheduled for printing
and mailing.
· Prepare
paper rolls and load into machine.
· Put
material for inserting and envelopes into loading racks on machines.
· Start
machines that automatically fold letters, add inserts, stuff and address
envelopes, and segregate destination codes.
· Observe
machine operations in order to detect any malfunctions.
· Operate
computer-controlled equipment in order to direct items according to established
routing schemes.
· Verify
that items are addressed correctly, packaged properly, and in suitable
condition for processing.
· Determine
manner in which mail is to be sent and prepare it for delivery to mailing
facilities.
· Lift
and unload containers of mail or parcels onto equipment for transportation to
sortation stations.
· Place
outgoing letters into bins based on destination or type, and place identifying
tags on bins.
· Clear
jams in equipment.
· Add
ink, fill paste reservoirs, and perform other light maintenance when necessary.
· Inspect
mail machine output for defects; determine how to eliminate causes of any
defects.
· Adjust
guides, rollers, envelopes and insertion bins, using rules and hand tools.
· Accept
and check containers of mail material or parcels from material handlers.
· Quality
check own work and work of others.
· Deliver
upon schedules and plans.
· Maintain
a safe and clean work environment.
· Report
and perform assigned duties for entire duration of regularly scheduled shift.
· Comply
with company policies and procedures and promote company values and culture.
Requirements
Skilled in Operation Monitoring —Watching
inventory, packaging, inserting, sorting or other indicators to make sure a
machine is working properly. Ability to examine error information on computer
display screen identify where the problem is located, and then proceed to clear
the problem from the machine (i.e. paper jams).
• Skilled in Quality
Control Analysis — Conducting tests and inspections of products, services, or
processes to evaluate quality or performance. Ability to examine job
instructions for appropriate material codes, identify codes on the material at
the machine and verify that the correct code is utilized.
• Skilled in Operation
and Control — controlling operations of equipment or systems.
• Skilled in Reading
Comprehension — Understanding written sentences and paragraphs in work related
documents.
• Skilled in Active Listening
— Giving full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to
understand the points being made, asking questions as appropriate, and not
interrupting at inappropriate times.

—sees details at close range (within a few feet of the observer).

Ability - Lifting up to 50 lbs.; standing, bending, and stooping for
up to 8 hours; using abdominal and lower back muscles to support

fatiguing.

Ability —Coordinating two or more limbs (for example, two arms, two legs, or
one leg and one arm) while sitting, standing, or lying down. It does not
involve performing the activities while the whole body is in motion.

Ability to examine material for common quality issues such as poor fold
quality, curled material, and changing sizes. Upon identification of
those issues operator must proceed by either working the material so as to be
able to use it, or seeking assistance from management

to a specific rule or set of rules (e.g., patterns of numbers, letters, words,
pictures, mathematical operations).
