Position Type/Expected Hours of Work This is a full-time position, and hours of work and days are Monday through Thursday, 8:30 pm – 7:00 am. May require working long hours during a breakdown. Travel between Niles and Hubbard facility locations may be required.

JOB DESCRIPTION

Summary/Objective

Seeking an experienced, hands-on Tool & Die Maker to support our in-house stamping operations during midnight shift. This role combines traditional die maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair with quality control responsibilities, including first piece inspections and non-conformance handling. Ideal for a seasoned die maker who takes pride in keeping progressive dies running and product quality in check with minimal supervision.

Key Responsibilities – Tool & Die:

· Troubleshoot progressive dies during production runs to minimize downtime

· Identify, repair, or replace worn and broken die components (punches, pilots, springs, guide pins, bushings, etc.)

· Assist operators/setup personnel with die setups to help prevent crashes and reduce scrap

· Perform sharpening, grinding, and shimming of die components as needed

· Use manual machines (Bridgeport mill, lathe, surface grinder) for repair and fabrication of die parts

· Maintain and organize die spare parts and components inventory using Monday.com

· Track usage and reorder needs for critical die spares to avoid production delays

· Communicate recurring die issues or wear patterns to engineering/tooling manager for further investigation.

Key Responsibilities – Quality Control:

· Perform first piece inspections at the start of runs and after die/product changes.

· Use standard measuring tools (calipers, micrometers, height gauges, etc.) to verify part conformance

· Identify and document non-conforming parts; initiate non-conformance reports

· Communicate quality issues to quality manager and assist in root cause troubleshooting when tied to die condition

· Maintain basic quality records/documentation for the shift

Qualifications:

· Extensive hands-on experience in die troubleshooting, maintenance, and setup support is required (journeyman card not required); this is a die maker position first — QC experience alone is not a substitute for hands-on die making background

· Solid working knowledge of stamping presses and progressive dies; familiarity with weld fixtures and press brake tooling also required.

· Comfortable operating a Bridgeport mill, lathe, and surface grinder

· Skilled in sharpening, grinding, and shimming die components

· Proficient with precision measuring instruments

· Strong mechanical background and problem solving/analytical skills, with the ability to troubleshoot die and quality issues independently

· Basic math skills sufficient for tooling and measurement calculations

· Basic computer skills; comfortable with Excel, Word, and Outlook

· Detail oriented, with strong ethical conduct and adherence to safety practices

· Strong work ethic; able to work independently on midnight shift as well as collaboratively with other teams/shifts

· Good communication skills for shift-to-shift handoff and reporting issues

Education/Preferred:

· Vocational/technical training or certification in tool & die or machining required; equivalent hands-on experience will be considered in lieu of formal education

· Prior QC/inspection experience preferred, but not a replacement for die maker experience

Work Environment While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibration. The employee is occasionally exposed to a variety of extreme conditions at construction job sites. The noise level in the work environment and job sites can be loud.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. This position is very active and requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling, and climbing all day. The employee must frequently lift and/or move items over 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

Travel Limited travel may occasionally be required for this position.
