Job Description:

As an Eco-Landscape Apprentice at Jessecology, you will have the unique opportunity to learn and contribute to the field of sustainable landscaping under the guidance of experienced professionals. This hands-on apprenticeship program is designed to provide comprehensive training in eco-friendly landscaping techniques, native plant selection, and organic horticulture practices. You will develop mastery of the basic installation techniques, as well as experience some greenhouse and stewardship team workflow. Team members at this level are learning about all the departments of the company: design/build, stewardship and greenhouse. Individual aptitude will drive an upward trajectory within departments. E.g. a landscape technician who expresses strong aptitude for landscape planning may qualify to be promoted and trained for the landscape designer role.

Responsibilities:

• -Assist in Landscape Installations: Work alongside experienced team members in the installation of eco-friendly landscapes, including planting native plants, creating rain gardens, and implementing water-efficient irrigation systems.
• -Stewardship Team assistance as needed: Participate in the maintenance of existing landscapes, learning our company’s unique practices to promote a healthy local ecosystem.
• -Greenhouse Team assistance as needed.
• -Learn Native Plant Identification: Acquire knowledge of native plant species and their role in supporting local wildlife, as well as understanding their suitability for different ecological niches.
• -Develop Landscape Design Skills: Gain practical experience in landscape design principles that prioritize sustainability, biodiversity, and aesthetic appeal.
• -Participate in Client Interactions: Sometimes you will collaborate with team members during client consultations. Your goal will be to acquire the agency to be able to explain eco-friendly landscaping practices and answer client questions.
• -Learn the company policies and standard operating procedures.
• -Drive and take care of company vehicles.

• Qualifications:
• Love of nature and adventure are important.
• Interest in environmental conservation.
• Gardening experience can be helpful, if coupled with the flexibility to be willing to unlearn counterproductive habits.
• Strong work ethic, ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions, and a willingness to learn.
• Basic knowledge of plant biology, horticulture, or landscaping is a plus.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team and follow instructions.
• Ability to work independently when needed as well.
• Physical fitness and ability to perform tasks that involve lifting, bending, and manual labor.
