Job Summary

On the Human Health and Performance Contract 2, we are at the forefront of safeguarding astronaut health, ensuring human performance, and advancing technologies for human space exploration. We are seeking a full-time Paramedic in Houston, TX.

In this role, you will serve as a paramedic assigned to the Human Test Support Group (HTSG), responsible for emergency medical treatment at the Neutral Buoyancy Laboratory (NBL), Crew Thermal Systems Division (CTSD), Active Response Gravity Offload System (ARGOS), and Rock Yard. Perform hazardous duty during hyperbaric and hypobaric chamber operations. Present formal lectures to NASA and non-NASA personnel undergoing hyperbaric chamber training. Perform as a medical monitor and medical test team member in support of altitude training flights and diving operations. Conduct hyperbaric and hypobaric chamber inspections and maintenance and maintain medical equipment and supplies. Perform administrative duties as required and make inputs to Electronic Medical Records (EMR), and occupational health reports

Primary Duties:

  • Responsible for compliance with Safety, Health and Environmental plan; must be committed to a high standard of safety and be willing and able to comply with all safety laws and all the Company’s safety policies and rules and must be willing to report safety violations and potential safety violations to appropriate supervisory or management personnel
  • Responsible for compliance with the Quality Assurance Plan, policies and procedures
  • Must maintain regular and acceptable attendance level as determined by the Company
  • Responsible for completing all assigned training
  • Perform as Medical Test Team Member for hyperbaric chamber operations for the Neutral Buoyancy Laboratory (NBL) and Crew Thermal Systems Division (CTSD) vacuum chambers
  • Perform as medical monitor during NBL and CTSD suited operations
  • Respond to all NBL medical emergencies functioning as a physician extender when the Medical Officer (MO) is present and as medical lead when the MO is on call
  • Provide emergency care under pressure during chamber operations and emergency treatments
  • Assist the MO in pre-dive/flight physical examinations and other medical support to include MO schedules
  • Provides medical training to other HTSG team members with direction from the MO
  • Performs as a crew member for the NBL hyperbaric chamber as inside tender, supervisor, chamber operator, timekeeper, and crew chief
  • Maintains medical equipment and supplies used to support the NBL and CTSD
  • Maintains all electronic and paper records for CTSD suited subjects, rescue techs, NBL suited subjects, guest and working divers
  • Maintains electronic records of all Medical Support Task Sheets
  • Conducts the inspection and maintenance of hyperbaric and hypobaric chambers
  • Perform other assignments and duties as required.
Requirements:

Education/Experience

  • Licensed Paramedic with ability to obtain a Texas Paramedic license within 3 months of being hired (Required).
  • Pass a NASA Category I physical examination (PE) and continue to pass Category I PE annually to maintain position (Required).
  • Ability to perform all skills necessary within a Licensed Paramedic’s scope of practice (Required).
  • Possess thorough knowledge of hyperbaric medicine, terminology, and equipment (Desired).

Skills/Training

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (Required)
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification (Required)
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel (Required)
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) (Desired)
  • Proficiency in Microsoft PowerPoint and SharePoint (Desired)
