Job Summary:

As our Process Maintenance General Supervisor, you will maintain all process-related systems and equipment including grinding mills, conveyor systems, and flotation circuits to keep our production going and our profitability up. You ll start every job with safety first by inspecting your workplace, and then perform safe and efficient project planning, parts requisitions, job set up, and layout your work. To thrive in this role, you must be able to maintain all process-related systems and equipment including grinding mills, conveyor systems, flotation circuits, pumps, pressure filters, hydraulic systems, air compressors, water treatment, ship loader and batch plant facilities. You must know how to work independently.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Execute a safety culture to support safe work performance and zero-harm.
  • Coordinate the implementation of safety plans and programs to the crews and promote risk recognition and awareness, hazard recognition and mitigation programs.
  • Ensure that all work areas are inspected, safe working practices are employed, and that incident investigations and reports are complete with root cause analysis and procedural changes implemented.
  • Ensure that all training activity is implemented and completed in accordance with Federal, State environmental regulations and policy. Maintain current records on all the maintenance operations, equipment, and employees to ensure that hazard operation inspections are completed on all equipment and tasks; SOP s have been completed by the trainers and signed off by the employees. Ensure that the master sheet is current and that all new training and upgrades are recorded.
  • Oversee mill maintenance including crushing, grinding, flotation, water treatment plant and concentrate dewatering.

  • An employee in this position supervises and organizes work in any of the process areas, Autoclave; Mill; Leach; and Labs.
  • Supports work order system, troubleshoots mechanical systems.
  • Prepares and provides upper management with reports and summaries, regularly communicates with superiors, and coordinates time, materials, and equipment needed for projects within his or her area of responsibility.
  • An employee must comply with state and federal health and safety regulations and all company policies and procedures.
  • Analyze, plan, set up, coordinate, and assign tasks to employees, supervise, and monitor maintenance progress, and coordinate time, supplies, equipment, and mine personnel in daily maintenance of mine equipment and property.
  • Make decisive and accurate decisions regarding employee safety and upgrades, mine equipment and property, maintenance of mine equipment and property, maintenance procedures, and changes and/or functions that need to be initiated.
  • Provide appropriate documentation for employee disciplinary actions, operations incidents and accidents, and shift production reports.
  • Formulate and monitor mine maintenance policy and procedures and insure employee compliance.
  • Perform daily, onsite inspections and/or tours to monitor projects, tasks, and procedures within respective areas of responsibility.
  • Train and instruct maintenance personnel regarding safety, maintenance procedures and upgrades.
  • Attend daily, weekly, and monthly planning meetings.
  • Learn and administer all Jervois policies and procedures including evaluations, discipline, vacations, and personal problems regarding employees.
  • Regularly communicate with subordinating employees: allow them to contribute input, to suggest changes, to discuss problems regarding employees.
  • Operate 2-way radio and telephone in order to communicate with other mine personnel regarding any problems or requirements necessary to proper maintenance of mine equipment.
  • Drive light vehicles.
  • Use office machines and equipment including, but not limited to, computers, software, copy machines, calculators, and others.
  • Occasionally used hand tools, power tools, pneumatic tools, and other mechanical instruments and equipment to assist maintenance personnel in maintaining mine equipment and property.
  • Wear required protective/safety equipment including steel shoes or boots, safety glasses, and hard hat. Wear hearing protection when necessary
  • Perform the essential functions of this position without posing a direct threat of harm to himself or herself, to others, of to mine equipment or property.
  • Attend and work through each scheduled work shift.

Required Experience and Skills:

  • Five years minimum experience supervising a mechanical maintenance work force in a mining or wet chemical process.
  • Five years experience milling, crushing, flotation, process water systems and conveying.
  • Ability to work well with others required.
  • Ability to communicate professionally in written and verbal form required.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft programs required.
  • Ability to work flexible hours/schedule required.
  • Ability to work independently with self-motivation required.
  • Strong analytical and decision-making skills required.
  • A technical or college degree in mechanics or related field or job-related experience.
  • Technical report writing
  • Computer skills (Microsoft professional)
  • Basic DCS programming skills
  • Project management
  • Mining interface with processing
  • OH&S legislation
  • Problem solving using the above capabilities- anticipating problems and developing alternate procedures

Physical Requirements:

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, and outside weather conditions. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; high, precarious places; toxic or caustic chemicals and extreme cold. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
  • Required to walk on un-even ground and to work in inclement weather.
  • Required to sit for extended periods at a time at desk or in vehicle.
  • Required to periodically lift items weighing approx. 50 pounds.
