Title: Volunteer Programs Manager – Community Programs & Outreach
Reports To: Director of Volunteer Programs
Location: Jersey Cares is located in Livingston, NJ. Jersey Cares staff operates on a hybrid work schedule with 3 days in the office, and 2 days working remotely. Candidates must be based in the New Jersey Metro area.

Position Description: Jersey Cares is seeking a highly organized, creative, and mission-driven Volunteer Programs Manager to lead and expand our community programs and outreach efforts. This role focuses on planning, implementing, and growing volunteer-driven programs that inspire community action, with a primary emphasis on managing our signature collection drives and leading communications, digital content, and outreach efforts that elevate Jersey Cares' statewide visibility. Reporting to the Director of Volunteer Programs, this position combines program management with communications, social media, and community outreach and is ideal for someone who thrives on balancing logistics with creativity, enjoys building relationships, and bringing community initiatives to life through thoughtful outreach and strategic communications.
The ideal candidate has experience in nonprofit program management, community outreach, or event planning, with the ability to translate community impact into engaging communications that inspire community participation.
Responsibilities:
- Lead the planning, implementation, and evaluation of multiple concurrent statewide collection drives (Ongoing: First Night Kit Drive, Animal Shelter Helper Drive, and Diaper Drive / Seasonal: School Supply Drive and Halloween Costume Drive)
- Manage relationships with nonprofit partners, collection sites, and sponsors to ensure successful drive execution and maximize community impact
- Oversee collection drive inventory management, donation tracking, distribution planning, and logistics
- Coordinate drive-related volunteer opportunities and support volunteer recruitment, communication, and retention efforts
- Maintain program, volunteer, and partner records within Salesforce and other organizational systems
- Develop and implement marketing and outreach strategies that increase volunteer participation, donation collection, and statewide awareness of Jersey Cares programs
- Create engaging digital and social media content (graphics, reels, stories, newsletters, blogs, etc.) that highlights community impact and strengthens Jersey Cares' brand recognition
- Develop monthly content for Youth Social Media Ambassadors program
- Support logistics and management for additional Volunteer Programs department initiatives including Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service, Youth Service Events, the annual Jersey Cares Coat Drive, and Frosty’s Friends
- Support Corporate Service Team as needed in preparing and leading service projects with corporate volunteers
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
- Strong organizational and project management skills with exceptional attention to detail
- Experience managing multiple projects, deadlines, and partnerships simultaneously
- Passion for volunteerism, community engagement, and alignment with Jersey Cares’ mission
- Excellent written and visual communication skills with the ability to translate program impact into engaging digital content and compelling communications
- Demonstrated experience developing communications, social media content, or marketing campaigns that drive community engagement, volunteer participation, or public awareness
- Collaborative team player with a track record of working in high-performance environments
- Flexibility to work early mornings, evenings, and occasional weekends as needed
- Valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle
- Ability to support hands-on logistics, including lifting up to 50lbs. and standing for extended periods
- Proficiency in Canva, Hootsuite, and Salesforce (preferred but not required)
Compensation:
- Annual salary of $47,500
