JOB DESCRIPTION
POSITION OVERVIEW
JBWS is seeking a dynamic, committed Housing Navigator for our Passaic County Shelter program to address housing and supportive needs and case management for our clients. Our ideal candidate has a proven ability to work compassionately and effectively with clients and their various needs including the impact of domestic violence. This individual will assist clients with securing safe affordable housing opportunities, act as a housing information resource to community and staff as well as establish positive relationships with property owners and managers. This individual will have knowledge and understanding of the experiences of marginalized communities, working collaboratively and flexibly to meet the needs of those served.
JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include but are not limited to:
Meet with housing clients to determine housing needs and jointly develop a housing stability plan with short term and long-term goals to gain housing and economic stability. Assist families to access resources for housing related assistance. Develop relationships with community partners to identify housing options that meet each client’s unique needs, providing psychoeducation and information to housing and homeless organizations as needed. Facilitate the use of flexible funds to support clients obtain or remain in stable housing. Perform financial assessments to assist in finding adequate living accommodations. Support shelter residents when on site including answering Helpline calls and providing support.
QUALIFICATIONS
Include but are not limited to:
BA in Social Work or related field or equivalent work experience considered. Minimum five years’ experience in housing, DV or related social justice field. Bilingual English/Spanish (verbal, written, reading) strongly preferred. Excellent communication skills including empathic listening and clear and concise documentation. Ability to build and maintain partnership with community supporters. Ability to multitask and effectively manage interruptions while performing duties. Experience utilizing crisis management and de-escalation techniques. Computer literate and proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
SCHEDULE REQUIREMENTS:
This position is full-time 35-hour per week. Monday through Friday with two evenings a week.
SALARY AND BENEFITS:
Full time salary range $55 – $60K. This position also offers a benefits package including an employee wellness program, medical, dental, vision, life, LTD, EAP, 403B and generous time off.
