Job Overview
We are seeking a knowledgeable and customer-focused Automotive Service Writer to join our dynamic team. The ideal candidate will serve as the primary point of contact for customers needing vehicle repairs and maintenance, ensuring clear communication between technicians and clients. This role requires a strong understanding of automotive systems, excellent sales skills, and exceptional customer service abilities. Experience in dealership operations, auto service management, and automotive diagnostics is highly desirable. The Service Writer will be responsible for accurately documenting vehicle issues, recommending services, and ensuring a seamless repair process that meets customer expectations.
Responsibilities
- Greet customers promptly and professionally, establishing rapport and understanding their vehicle concerns
- Write detailed service estimates based on customer descriptions and technician assessments
- Communicate repair recommendations effectively, upselling additional services when appropriate
- Coordinate with technicians to prioritize repairs and ensure timely completion of work
- Manage vehicle intake and return processes, including explaining repairs and pricing to customers
- Handle cash transactions and process payments accurately
- Maintain detailed records of services performed, parts used, and customer interactions
- Assist in vehicle inspections such as oil changes, tire services, brake repairs, suspension work, alignments, transmission repairs, diesel engine repairs, air brake systems, shocks & struts, auto body repairs, and other automotive services
- Stay informed about current automotive repair techniques and industry standards to provide accurate estimates
- Promote customer satisfaction through professional communication and quality service
Requirements
- Proven experience in dealership or auto service management preferred
- Strong knowledge of automotive diagnostics, mechanical systems, and repair procedures including transmissions, oil changes, brake repair, suspension work, tire service, diesel engines, auto body repair, air brake systems, shocks & struts
- Excellent customer service skills with the ability to explain technical issues clearly to clients
- Ability to upsell services effectively while maintaining integrity and customer trust
- Experience with auto estimating software and sales techniques is a plus
- Mechanical knowledge or mechanic experience beneficial for understanding technician reports
- Familiarity with auto service operations such as vehicle maintenance scheduling and automobile sales processes
- Cash handling experience preferred but not required
- Automotive service writing skills necessary for accurate documentation of repairs and estimates
