About Jerritt Canyon

The Jerritt Canyon deposit was discovered in 1972, and the first gold production from the property occurred in 1981. The Jerritt Canyon property contains 30,821 hectares of mining claims located in the mining-friendly state of Nevada. First Majestic acquired the Jerritt Canyon Gold Mine from Sprott Mining Inc. on April 30, 2021. In May 2023, operations were suspended to prioritize exploration and technical studies. Jerritt Canyon is now entering a new phase of evaluation and planning, requiring substantial technical support to advance the work necessary for a potential future restart of operations.

The Opportunity

The Project Engineer is responsible for planning, coordinating, and executing engineering projects within mining operations. This role supports projects from initial concept and feasibility through detailed engineering, procurement, construction, commissioning, and closeout. The Project Engineer works closely with mining operations, engineering, maintenance, environmental, safety, contractors, and other stakeholders to ensure projects are delivered safely, efficiently, on schedule, within budget, and in compliance with applicable regulations and industry standards.

The ideal candidate combines strong project management and engineering capabilities with practical knowledge of mining operations, heavy equipment, mine infrastructure, and construction activities.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, coordinate, and manage mining-related capital and sustaining projects from initiation through completion.
  • Develop project scopes, schedules, cost estimates, budgets, resource requirements, and execution plans.
  • Coordinate engineering design activities and ensure deliverables meet project requirements, applicable codes, and industry standards.
  • Work with mining, processing, maintenance, and operations teams to identify improvement opportunities and develop engineering solutions.
  • Manage engineering consultants, contractors, vendors, and other third-party resources.
  • Review engineering drawings, specifications, technical reports, equipment selections, and construction packages.
  • Support procurement activities, including preparation of technical specifications, bid evaluations, vendor selection, and equipment procurement.
  • Coordinate construction activities and provide technical support during installation, commissioning, and startup.
  • Monitor project progress, costs, schedules, quality, and risks, and implement corrective actions when required.
  • Identify and manage project risks, including technical, operational, environmental, safety, schedule, and cost risks.
  • Prepare and maintain project documentation, including schedules, budgets, progress reports, change orders, meeting minutes, and closeout documentation.
  • Manage project changes and evaluate their impact on scope, cost, schedule, and operational requirements.
  • Ensure projects comply with applicable federal, state/provincial, and local regulations, mining requirements, environmental permits, and company standards.
  • Incorporate health, safety, environmental, and sustainability requirements into project design and execution.
  • Participate in hazard assessments, constructability reviews, design reviews, and safety meetings.
  • Coordinate with site personnel to minimize operational disruption during construction and implementation.
  • Support commissioning, performance testing, operational handover, and project closeout.
  • Conduct post-project reviews and identify opportunities for continuous improvement.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers and project personnel as appropriate.

The above responsibilities are representative and may not include all assigned duties.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Business Administration, Accounting, Project Management, or a related field preferred. Equivalent combinations of education and relevant mining, industrial, or construction project experience will be considered.
  • Project management training or certification, such as PMP, is preferred.
  • 5 years of engineering and/or project engineering experience, preferably within mining, minerals processing, heavy industry, construction, or a similarly complex industrial environment.
  • Demonstrated experience managing engineering or capital projects from concept through construction and commissioning.
  • Experience working in or supporting active mining operations is strongly preferred.
  • Experience developing project scopes, cost estimates, schedules, budgets, and execution plans.
  • Experience coordinating engineering consultants, contractors, vendors, and multidisciplinary project teams.
  • Demonstrated experience with construction management, field engineering, commissioning, or startup activities.
  • Working knowledge of mining equipment, mine infrastructure, processing facilities, or related industrial systems.
  • Experience managing project risks, changes, budgets, schedules, and technical deliverables.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with operations, maintenance, engineering, safety, environmental, and management teams.
