Job Title: Shop & Fabrication Assistant Position Overview
We are seeking a disciplined and versatile Shop & Fabrication Assistant to join our team. This role is pivotal in maintaining the operational flow between our fabrication and installation departments. Initially, you will be integrated into the Fabrication team to master material preparation and cutting specifications. As you progress, your responsibilities will expand to include yard management, logistics support, and on-site installation assistance.
The ideal candidate is a proactive "all-rounder" who takes pride in an organized workspace and possesses a keen eye for detail.
Key Responsibilities
- Shop Support: Perform duties designated by shop and install leads to maintain a steady production flow.
- Material Preparation: Execute post-cut processing, including deburring, drilling, and surface cleaning to ensure materials are production-ready.
- Logistics & Staging: Efficiently load and unload aluminum railings and hardware; organize and stage materials for upcoming projects. Transport materials to job sites or pick up orders from vendors as needed.
- Facility Management: Maintain a clean, safe, and highly organized shop yard and loading zone.
- Inventory Control: Assist in tracking material inventory, managing scrap/off-cuts, and ensuring all hardware is accurately labeled and bundled.
- Cross-Functional Support: Flex between the shop and the field, providing support to the installation team on-site as required.
Qualifications & Skills
- Shop Drawing Literacy: Proven ability to read shop drawings and use a tape measure with high precision.
- Equipment Proficiency: Experience with basic power tools (saws, drills, grinders) and forklift operation is highly preferred.
- Physical Capability: Ability to lift up to 50 lbs, stand for extended periods, and work in a fast-paced industrial environment.
- Digital Aptitude: Comfortable using iPads or tablets for digital workflow and inventory tracking.
- Professionalism: Strong communication skills and a collaborative mindset.
- Experience: Previous experience in metal fabrication, warehouse logistics, or construction is a significant advantage.
Safety & Compliance Standards
- PPE Adherence: Commitment to wearing required safety gear (eye protection, hearing protection, gloves, and steel-toed boots) at all times.
- Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs): Follow established safety guidelines for metal cutting, grinding, and material stacking.
- Reporting: Proactively identify and report any "near-misses," damaged tools, or unsafe working conditions to management immediately.
