Role Description The General Superintendent is a full-time, on-site role based in Charleston, SC, overseeing daily field operations for multiple commercial concrete projects. This position coordinates crews, equipment, and materials to ensure work is completed safely, on schedule, and to quality standards. The General Superintendent reviews project plans, layouts, and specifications; provides direction to forepersons; and collaborates with project managers, contractors, and clients. Responsibilities include monitoring productivity, enforcing safety protocols, managing inspections, resolving field issues, and maintaining accurate documentation and reports. The role also involves training team members, supporting workflow improvements, and ensuring adherence to company procedures and building codes. Qualifications
- Experience supervising commercial concrete construction, including curb and gutter, sidewalks, and flatwork installations.
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and GPS-based layouts, with familiarity using Leica or similar equipment.
- Strong leadership, crew management, and team-building skills, with the ability to coordinate multiple projects and forepersons.
- Proficiency in scheduling, resource allocation, and project coordination to meet deadlines and quality expectations.
- Solid understanding of construction safety standards, OSHA requirements, and risk management on active job sites.
- Effective communication and problem-solving skills for working with internal teams, contractors, inspectors, and clients.
- Ability to maintain accurate field documentation, daily reports, and project records using basic computer and mobile software tools.
- Previous experience as a superintendent, foreperson, or similar leadership role in concrete or civil construction.
- High school diploma or equivalent required; additional technical training or construction-related education is beneficial.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to travel between job sites within the Charleston, Dorchester, and Berkeley areas.
