What are the responsibilities and job description for the Nanny & Household Assistant position at Jenn Parker?
We’re two families looking for a dependable, caring, and proactive nanny & household assistant to help with afternoon childcare, meal preparation, errands, and general family support.
Each family has a 5-year-old daughter in Kindergarten at Falmouth Elementary. The girls are friends, ride the same bus, and will often be cared for together after school. We’re looking for someone who genuinely enjoys spending time with kids and cooking!
Responsibilities
- Provide reliable after-school care for two 5-year-old girls, Monday through Friday
- Meet the girls after the school bus and care for them through the afternoon
- Plan fun, age-appropriate activities, outings, crafts, and outdoor play
- Prepare meals and snacks for the girls
- Help with family meal preparation/cooking as needed
- Run household errands, grocery shop, and assist with other family needs
- Provide occasional morning or daytime childcare on school holidays, vacation weeks, teacher workshop days, and other non-school days
- Help keep the girls' spaces and belongings organized and tidy
Schedule: Approximately 25–40 hours per week, with some variation depending on the school calendar and each family's needs.
Afternoon childcare will be the most consistent part of the schedule. Additional hours for cooking, errands, household help, and non-school days can be somewhat flexible.
Qualifications
- Previous childcare experience
- Warm, patient, dependable, and responsible
- Proactive and comfortable taking initiative
- Organized and able to manage the needs of two households
- Comfortable preparing simple family meals
- Comfortable with dogs and active family environments
- Valid driver's license, clean driving record, and dependable transportation
- Comfortable traveling between Falmouth and Portland as needed
Compensation
$25/hour per family while providing childcare.
When caring for both girls together, each family pays $25/hour, for a total of $50/hour.
Hours spent working exclusively for one family—including errands, cooking, household assistance, or caring for one child—are paid at $25/hour by that family.
We’re hoping to find someone who can become a consistent, trusted part of both families and is interested in a position that combines childcare with the flexibility of a family assistant role.
