What are the responsibilities and job description for the Environmental Technician position at JENKINS SERVICES GROUP?

JOB SUMMARY:

This position is a full time non-exempt position. This position is primarily responsible for physically performing the necessary mold remediation, setting up containment, performing demolition as needed, delivering, staging, setting-up and monitoring remediation equipment, taking-down and decontaminating drying equipment, and overseeing demolition/cleaning crews of up to 10 people. May be required to meet with Environmentalist assigned to project that is providing clearance.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Respond to emergency remediation needs.
  • Perform remediation services based on direction from the job supervisor.
  • Oversee crews that are performing remediation demolition and cleaning.
  • Competently setup and take down containment barriers and understand air pressurization.
  • Crime, trauma and biohazard clean-up and perform remediation services.
  • Tracking of subcontractor labor hours.
  • Interpret job scopes to determine the remediation services needed.
  • Ensure that crew members wearing proper PPE, donning and doffing at designated location within the decontamination chamber, and following proper safety measures during demolition and cleaning.
  • Has an understanding of how OSHA guidelines affect projects.
  • Perform commercial mitigation (deliver, stage, set-up and monitor drying equipment, take-down and decontaminate drying equipment).
  • Bi-lingual capabilities are preferred, but not required.

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Oversee crews of up to 10 people.

Medical Requirements

Jenkins Restorations strives to comply with OSHA for industry safety and cares for the safety and wellbeing of its employees. Below, is a breakdown of the medical requirements that our first responders are required to complete.
Once hired for one of the above positions, the employee must start the following procedures as soon as possible:

  • DOT Physical
  • Respirator Physical and Fit Test
  • Start first series of Hepatitis A and Hepatitis B shots (also, referred to as TwinRix series)
  • And Tetanus shot

After a month later:

  • · Second Hepatitis B shot only OR (second TwinRix shot of series)

Six months later from the first Shot

  • Third Hepatitis A and Hepatitis B OR (third TwinRix shot of series)

Important Note: Missing required time frames for the shots can cause the shot process to star again. We are using several Medical Centers depending on the Branch Location. The authorization forms will be provided by the HR Department to JR employees

Qualifications:

QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:        

Associates degree (A.A or A.S) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; Six months to one year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

 

LANGUAGE SKILLS:                                                       

Must possess the ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Demonstrate the ability to write routine reports, correspondence and the ability to speak effectively to customers and/or employees of organization.

COMPUTER SKILLS:                                                      

To perform this job successfully, an individual should be familiar with software like Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook, etc.)

REASONING ABILITY:

Possess the ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms and talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to climb or balance. The employee is occasionally required to sit; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and smell. The employee must regularly lift and /or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to visit project sites that have incurred catastrophic events from fire, water, and storm damage and could require accessing roofs, which they need to be able to carry a 40’ ladder from their truck and setting it up at the roof line of the associated property. The employee must be able to carry a minimum of 50 pounds in weight for the purpose of getting material to a specific place on the project site.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to outside weather conditions. The employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts and high, precarious places. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; risk of electrical shock and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Appropriate safety equipment is furnished.
