What You Should Know About the Cancer Screening Navigator Position:
- Hours are 8:00-5:00pm, Monday-Friday
- This position is based within Jefferson Regional Oncology Practice
- In this unique setting, daily interactions with a diverse clientele, including hospital staff, physicians, and visitors, are expected.
Job Summary:
The Cancer Screening Navigator promotes cancer screening and educational events throughout the year staying abreast of all new clinical guidelines. This position ensures patients get the required screenings and follow ups as needed for the prevention of cancer. Their responsibilities includes providing care and follow up care at events and in clinic to assess screening needs, screening patient data for specific outcomes, presenting data, educational and marketing materials in professional content.
Cancer Screening Navigator Qualifications:
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- Associate or Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing required.
- Master’s Degree in Nursing preferred.
- Graduate from an accredited nursing program required.
- This is a safety sensitive position.*
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills to build rapport with patient, families, and healthcare teams.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks in a fast paced environment
- Proficiency in electronic medical records systems and data tracking tools.
- Excellent computer skills especially with Microsoft suites.
- Good problem solving skills.
- Ability to multitask and prioritize.
- Experience with conflict resolution
- Ability to adapt education to patient’s literacy level and learning style.
- Ability use critical thinking and make decisions.
- Prior experience working as a patient advocate or navigator, preferred.
- A minimum of two (2) years current nursing experience, preferred.
- Experience with coverage guidelines for governmental and commercial payers, preferred.
- Current knowledge of routine screening of general population as well as cancer patients, preferred. Special attention to breast, colon, prostate, gynecological and lung screening preferred.
