EXAMINATION IS ANNOUNCED TO ESTABLISH AN EMPLOYMENT LIST TO FILL ONE (1) CURRENT WEST JEFFERSON VACANCY IN THE DEPARTMENT OF DRAINAGE.
This employment list will also be used for future EAST AND WEST Jefferson vacancies in various Departments as they occur.
The purpose of this position is to safely and efficiently operate a Large Excavator (101 hp or higher), and to perform minor maintenance and servicing of the assigned equipment in accordance to existing safety programs, work standards, and procedures. Operator is required to drive and operate Combination & Fifth Wheel Tractor Trailer Trucks used to transport heavy and medium size equipment used in construction operations and maintenance of existing canal, ditches and sub-surface drainage system. Performs tasks according to state and local laws concerning D.O.T. and wide load operation of tractor trailers. Safely operate and maintain equipment capable of excavating, widening, grading sloping and stabilizing canal and ditch slopes and tops with required backfilling. Operator will be required to trench for drainage culvert installation, cleaning of right-of-ways, removal of debris and stumps, load dump trucks and trash trucks, etc. Operator will be required to inspect and maintain the equipment's tire inflation; oil levels; leaks (oil, fuel, water, etc.); coolant in radiator; lights and signal devices; clear and clean windows, lamp lenses, mirrors; and functioning windshield wipers. May also be required to operate all equipment assigned to lower level Equipment Operators, as well as all equipment assigned to the level of Equipment Operator IV, as assigned by the department. Depending on the assigned vehicles, Equipment Operator IV's may be required to possess a valid Louisiana Standard (Class E), Chauffeur's (Class D), or Commercial (Classes A, B, C) Driver's License in order to perform the tasks associated with the position. Performs related work as required. This position is also an essential, emergency duty status worker and may not be relieved of duty when the Parish President or his designee recommends a voluntary or mandatory evacuation of Jefferson Parish.
The current position requires driving of a Parish vehicle necessitating a Class A license, thus possession of a valid Class A driver's license and acceptable driving record will be given preference.
I. Current employment and permanent civil service status with Jefferson Parish; plus:
A. Verifiable, satisfactory experience (or completion of an approved Parish training course) in operating a Large Excavator (101 hp or higher); OR
B. Certification by an Appointing Authority that applicant has been adequately trained to operate a Large Excavator (101 hp or higher).

II. Minimum age of 18 years; plus, verifiable, satisfactory work experience (or certifiable completion of an acceptable training course) in the operation of a Large Excavator (101 hp or higher).
