The purpose of this position is to perform entry-level inspection and enforcement work in the Property Maintenance Division of the department. Under general supervision, the employee investigates and conducts initial and follow-up inspections on residential and commercial properties within Jefferson Parish for zoning ordinance violations, garbage/trash violations; and for general property maintenance relative to the International Property Maintenance Code. Prepares inspection reports in accordance with department requirements, policies, and procedures. Records conditions that constitute a code violation and reports them to the appropriate department for further inspection/investigation/violation of applicable codes. . Performs related duties as required. Drives to and from various locations throughout Jefferson Parish to perform job tasks; will require working on both banks of the river as needed. Position requires driving of a personal vehicle, thus possession of a valid driver’s license, acceptable driving record, and personal automobile with minimum liability insurance available for business use (business travel is reimbursed on a mileage basis) will be given preference.
Possession of high school diploma or GED and ONE of the following:1. One (1) year of field work experience receiving, documenting, and responding to community/customer complaints.

2. Two (2) years of work experience involving extensive public contact.

The examination will consist of two components: an assembled, written multiple-choice test and a rating of training and experience. The written test will be based on the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities of the position, and the rating of training and experience will be based on review of candidates' applications. The written test may examine candidates on: knowledge of English spelling, grammar, and punctuation, comprehension and reasoning skills, skill in judging appropriate public relations, mathematical ability, and computer-related knowledge. Candidates who meet the minimum qualifications will be notified later by mail of the date, time, and location of the written test.
