What are the responsibilities and job description for the SER Technician position at Jefferson Parish School District?
SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Compliance Monitoring, Tracking and Verifying Special Education student data, Data entry, downloading reports, and work on matching SER with SIS.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Track and verify student data for all Special Education students transferring in and out of the district.
- Track, record and verify new students entering in the parish, making contact with other LEAS in the state.
- Pupil Appraisal data entry of student information in generating monthly reports to keep within state timelines.
- Monitors all evaluation and IEP data entries to keep within state timelines.
- Data entry for all students who qualify for the Extended School Year Program (ESYP).
- Tracks and maintains records of Referrals, Cover Sheets, Individual Education Plans, Service Plans, Instructional Services and Supplemental Services received from the Child Search and Special Projects.
- Corresponds with the State Department of Education and other parishes concerning data entry or student data.
- Assists with preparation of local, state, and federal reports generated from the computer database.
- Attends meetings conducted by the local and State Education Departments concerning data entry information that affects the compliance status of the Special Education Department. Perform any other duties assigned by the Assistant Director: Student Information Systems.
WORK ENVIRONMENT/HOURS WORKED:
- Required to work in an office type setting, climate controlled environment adhering to School Board energy policy.
- The workday consists of eight hours per day including one hour for lunch and two fifteen (15) minute breaks as approved by the supervisor.
- Workday may be adjusted for Board approve summer schedule/emergencies.
COMMUNICATION SKILLS:
- Must be able to communicate in English both orally and in writing.
- Must have the ability to accurately give and receive information via tele-communication system.
- Must be able to communicate successfully and pleasantly with the public.
EQUIPMENT USED:
- Computer, fax, calculator, copy machine, printers, and other appropriate office machines.
PHSICAL INVOLVEMENT:
- Sitting is required part of each work day.
- Must be able to operate office equipment.
- Standing, walking, reaching, bending, lifting up to 10 pounds is sometimes required.
- Ability to provide own transportation to schools, work locations and meeting sites.
- Mobility necessary to access a variety of work locations.
MENTAL INVOLVEMENT:
- Must understand and interpret written and verbal instructions from supervisor. Must be able to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Must have ability to learn various computer software programs.
HUMAN RELATIONS INVOLVEMENT:
- Must be able to work compatibly in group settings.
- Must be able to respond positively to supervision and to accept suggestions for improvement.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school diploma or GED.
- Demonstrates ability in word processing like MS Word and Groupwise 6.5.
- Three (3) years experience in general office work and use of computers.
- Excellent communication skills.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:
- Data entry experience and working knowledge of State Interactive System for SER database.
- Knowledge of Jefferson Parish Policy and Procedures concerning tracking of students on LANSER.
