Position Description:
The Chief Legal Counsel (CLC) supports the Superintendent, Unit Heads, and School-Based Administrators by providing timely and accurate legal advice with a focus on risk management and legal compliance.

Scope of Responsibility:
- Works closely with the Superintendent to set measurable legal objectives that are aligned with the mission and vision of JPS.
- Serves on the Superintendent’s leadership team and drafts/reviews policy and policy updates as needed to comply with Board action and/or changes in the
- Representativeissuesinclude,butarenotlimitedto,employeerecruitmentandhiring,employeerelations,employeediscipline,wagesandbenefits,employeerightsunderTitleVII,ADEA,ADA,FMLA,employeegrievances,FirstAmendment,studentdiscipline,studentrightsundertheIDEA,TitleII,Section504,TitleIXand
- RepresentsadministrationinemployeehearingsconductedpursuanttoR.S.17:443andLa.R.S.17:493.
- Represents the District before state and federal agencies, including, but not limited to, OCR, DOJ, EEOC and LDOE, with regard to complaints of alleged violations of student/employee Oversee compliance with agreements currently in effect between the District and said agencies.

- Performs other duties as assigned by the Superintendent.
