Responsibilities

  • Assist veterans in understanding and applying for benefits through programs such as VA healthcare, disability compensation, and housing assistance, including Section 8 housing programs.
  • Conduct thorough intake assessments to identify individual needs related to behavioral health, addiction recovery, social services, and workforce development.
  • Provide personalized counseling using motivational interviewing techniques to encourage positive decision-making and behavioral change.
  • Coordinate with community partners and service providers to connect veterans with addiction counseling, mental health support, employment training, and other social services.
  • Advocate on behalf of veterans during appeals or disputes regarding benefits or services.
  • Manage crisis situations effectively by implementing crisis management protocols and providing immediate support or referrals when necessary.
  • Maintain accurate records of interactions, assessments, and service plans in compliance with confidentiality standards.
  • Stay informed about current policies related to Section 8 housing, workforce development initiatives, behavioral health programs, and veteran-specific legislation.

Skills

  • Deep understanding of veteran benefits programs such as Section 8 housing assistance and VA healthcare systems.
  • Strong knowledge of workforce development strategies tailored for veterans transitioning into civilian employment.
  • Experience in addiction counseling and behavioral health support tailored for veteran populations.
  • Proficiency in social work practices with an emphasis on trauma-informed care and client advocacy.
  • Skilled in motivational interviewing techniques to facilitate behavioral change and engagement.

  • Excellent communication skills for building rapport with veterans and collaborating with community organizations.
