Jefferson County is currently hiring for a Deputy Treasurer/County Clerk to join the team! This position supports the Treasurer and County Clerk’s offices. This position is a 50/50 split between both offices. The Deputy Treasurer responsibilities play a key role in ensuring efficient office operations by performing a range of administrative, financial, and customer service tasks. The County Clerk responsibilities are to be the first point of contact within the County Clerk’s office and to collaborate with the County Clerk and Chief Deputy Clerk to assist with the administration of election activities and perform duties in accordance with the Deputy County Clerk.

Deputy Treasurer
In order to be successful supporting the Treasurer’s office, you will be responsible for these key responsibilities:
- Assist taxpayers, property owners, and stakeholders through in-person, phone, and email interactions.
- Assists the Treasurer in preparing, collecting, and processing property taxes, fees, and other revenue sources, maintaining meticulous records, and ensuring adherence to relevant laws and regulations.
- Receives and posts tax payments and revenues from other County Departments. Prepares Register of Deed and Register in Probate fees received and calculates amount due to County and State
- Contributes to financial transaction reconciliation, report generation, and accurate data entry with unwavering attention to detail.
- Engages in ongoing training to stay current with relevant policies, procedures, and regulations related to treasury functions.
- Safeguards the confidentiality and security of sensitive financial and taxpayer information, adhering to established protocols and requirements.
- Performs the duties of the Treasurer and Chief Deputy Treasurer in their absence.
- Assists in tax settlements with local Treasurer offices.
Deputy County Clerk
In order to be successful supporting the County Clerk’s office, you will be responsible for these key responsibilities:
- Adheres to statutes and procedures when issuing passports and a variety of licenses; interviews applicants; administers oaths; and collects fees.
- Assists in coordinating the federally mandated voter software program for the county municipalities.
- Calculates and issues invoices for individual election cost sharing, State registration to municipalities and equipment maintenance based on data collected.
- Prepares all election supplies and performs tests of ballots to ensure accuracy of voting machines.
- Prepares materials for the County Board of Canvass to review and certify election results.
- Compiles materials for recount and participates in formal recount proceedings.
- Assists with compiling data and upkeep of County Directory and website.
Starting wage: $20.64 - $22.41/hour
Hours: 40 hours/week

Qualifications Needed:
· High school diploma or equivalent with minimum of two years related experience in accounting, tax, or related field.
· Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word or any combination of education and experience that provides equivalent knowledge, skills, and abilities.
· Certification of Voter Software by State of Wisconsin within 6 months of employment.
· Valid drivers license.
Qualifications Preferred:
· Three years related experience and/or Associates degree and one year experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
· Bonded.
